When I turned the ignition off on my 2nd gen, the headlights would automatically turn off immediately.

When I turn the ignition off on my 3rd gen, the headlights stay on. Will they eventually shut off on their own? Or do I have to get back in the truck and turn them off manually?

They should turn off by themselves. I think there is a settings option on the head unit.

They stay on and will eventually turn off based on what the setting is.

However if you press the lock button twice they immediately turn off.

You can change the settings in the Entune head unit.

Forums are for some of this stuff. Sometimes you just wanna chat and so you lob up a softball.

OP even if you leave your lights on, and don't have them on auto, they will turn off eventually (maybe 10-20mins). At least on my 3rd gen and wife's 4runner they do.

I found the headlight settings on the head unit. Thanks guys.

Any of you played around with the "driver" customizable settings app? Worth digging into if I'm the only one driving the truck?

Mine still won’t turn off after hitting lock button twice.

My 2016 did it from the beginning, but I recently bought a 2017 and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make it so the headlights turn off after double locking the truck.

I’ve gone into the head unit settings and it’s set on the 30 second turn off.

Did you ever find out why your lights would not power down after 30secs? My 19SR5 lights worked fine, then I installed aftermarket grille . Now, they will not automatically power down if dark outside, but will shutdown when light outside Not even sure if grille has anything to do with it, may just a coincidence

So, I'll try to ask this question without judgement, and please take it as genuine curiosity:

Why do folks leave the headlight switch in the on position during shutdown? (Auto position excluded)

I have never gotten into that habit, even as cars have gotten advanced enough to save us from ourselves. One, I always felt that killing as many accessories as possible doesn't put as big of a strain on the battery during engine start. Two, flipping switches is fun.

So why do it? Why leave lights and any other non-radio accessory on after killing the engine? (Heck, I even turn the volume down before turning everything off.:anonymous:)
