Hello TacomaWorld, I am planning to put some eyelids on my 2013 Toyota Tacoma. I plan to use chrome vinyl to make the eyelids. I also want to ask if anyone has tried to wrap their black plastic mirrors and door handles with vinyl. Thanks 9CBE505C-C36E-492F-9B06-353C0CEDA968.jpgE603B431-60EA-4B48-B901-325E09960072.jpg

One group screams they need more light output, another intentionally restricts light output.

Maybe I'll do one of each.

    Look like a wink.

Or go heterochromia for a more exotic look.

Aren't you worried about reducing the output of your headlights?

I’d look into the black headlight mod. Headlight tint is illegal in a lot of states.

People often give opinion and express it as fact even when they don't have a clue what they're writing about and it's in every single thread on TW. Save your money and slap TRD stickers on it.

Not bad and thanks for sharing. Without a calibrated Light Meter though, I'm still somewhat skeptical.

Good video. What’s more telling to me is if you look at the 3 pics showing the front of the car is how the license plate gets darker and since we see what light is refracted back to our eyes that’s a better idea of how things will look to you. I’m completely blind in one eye so things like this I find very interesting and am very sensitive to light changes. Really good demo though.

Only other note I’d make is since we don’t drive around facing a nice flat white wall reflecting light straight back at our eyes Would have been an outside demo at night at about 75-100 feet with objects of varying colors and shapes. All in all still interesting.

It is a good video. I'd bet the quality of the tint plays a big role in its affects on light output.

As in your second comment it's reflected, not refracted. Refracted is when an angle changes the direction of light from a light source.

The color/distance/shape of an object being lit does not affect a light's output.

My dad is legally blind in one eye as well. Unfortunately it kept him from serving in Korea in the military.

My eyes are super sensitive to light changes as well. It's partially due to their color and partially due to the medication that I used to take. "Used to take" because they won't refill my prescription because that medication also cures the Coronavirus. The medication's side affects are still wearing off.

This video is very flawed. Automatic cameras attempt to compensate the white balance so darker images appear lighter. Meaning the camera is going to lighten the photos of the filmed covered headlights to compensate. To do a camera based comparison you’d need to exposure and aperture lock the camera and it looks like they could use a greater distance to the wall. But ultimately light measurement tools like a lux meter are what should be used to tell the difference, not separate photos. Tint will significantly reduced output of headlights, or any lights, and the darker the tint the more significant the losses. They are trying to sell you a product with a misleading video. You can just look at the comments on the video of people that bought the product and now say they lost such significant light output they are removing the product. Including one that says they bought the dark tint and now cannot see even running 5000k HIDs.

    Marketing departments are definitely sneaky.
