Hi guys, so I just noticed the factory film on my Headlights are starting to peel off. Is this normal? Anyway to stop it from peeling even more?

I would say not normal. My left headlight had weird spots on the inside and was replaced by my dealer no questions asked. Just go to your dealer if you still have the warranty.

You can always protect your headlights by applying a coating on them.

Normal :rofl:I'm out of warranty to. Eventually I'll get to sanding then sealing it with a kit of some kind. Or have a professional reseal them.

I just noticed the same thing starting on mine the other day, the upper portion started to get that bubbling/peeling going on. =/ Guess I should watch it as well. Wonder if extended warranty would cover it, mine is a '16 though. Hmmm...

Unfortunately "normal". Also in San Diego, and I had a 2015 Tundra... same thing at just 1 year old. If you're under warranty, take it in. On my Tacoma, I put Chemical Guys Jet Seal every few months.

Whenever I get a new car, I have the headlights wrapped in clear bra (as well as the mirrors, or other high-impact areas). On my truck I get the tailgate wrapped. My headlights on my 08 still looked brand spanking new 12 years later.

Just a question for myself if this were to happen using an led after market would it still be covered? Assuming no since I assume the lense is intended to use a halogen bulb?

take it out your LEDs before going to the dealer, they will use any excuse to not do work for you.

Thank you that’s a pretty simple answer should’ve thought of that haha. I don’t have this issue yet but just asking if it were to occur. Thanks again.

It's happening to mine, has been for awhile. Pretty disappointing honestly but what can ya do. I'll just sand them down and restore them once they get bad enough in a few years.

My left taillight had to be replaced because of a manufacture defect. Apparently all lights are prone to some issues after some time. Unfortunately, my taillight only lasted exactly a year.

The inside of the taillight shattered because of uneven air pressure or a leak in the seal.

Seems like most of you guys who are experiencing this are in hotter climates. Wonder if this has anything to do with it.

UV is a huge contributor to this kind of deterioration, as is heat (both from bulb and sun). So yes hotter climates do play a large factor.

All headlights will do this just a question of when. Doesn’t hurt anything just looks shitty. You can sand it and seal/clearcoat it or replace them.

Glass headlights won’t do this, but the days of glass headlights on your average vehicle are long gone.

The real problem is that film that’s coming off on the OP, is actually the UV protective film that stops the headlight from discoloration. So once that’s gone, it’s a constant sanding / polishing battle and any clear coat from your average rattle can or wax sealer really won’t do shit. It’s a 2 part clear coat or clear protective film that will help.
