I've been getting flashed by other drivers since I bought the truck last week, and I noticed it seemed the headlights are throwing light way high.

Tonight I tried to adjust the aim downward, worked perfectly on the passenger side, but nothing is happening on the driver's side headlight.

Has anyone had their headlights apart, maybe to black them out or install HID's and can share a pic of what the adjuster mechanism looks like?

I'll tear it down tomorrow anyway - but always helps to have an idea of what you're getting in to first.

For what model truck? And are they oem headlights? Usually the adjusters are separate from the internal headlight. May just need a new adjuster. Mine are aftermarket and the adjuster is inside the headlight. So I would have to split the lens.

Sorry - 2007, doublecab. Stock headlights. There are 2 adjuster wheels on the back of the light housing - but the one that aims up/down on the drivers size doesn't seem to make any change in the beam level anymore.

Hmmm.. well I've been looking around the net.. Couldn't really find anything on replacing the adjuster. I've heard of people replacing the adjustment bolt/screw/nut with some fasteners at the parts store or home depot. But from what it looks like, it's an internal adjustment just like mine. Meaning the reflector inside moves, but not the housing? I'm not sure, but I think you're sol. I don't think you can remove that adjustment screw to replace it. I believe it's set in place and the inside of it has an adjuster that moves in and out as you turn the screw. Now, it MAY have just came off the screw and needs threaded back on, OR it's just broke inside. But to figure that out you'd have to split the lens off and see.

This is what I'd do. And if someone else has more info or needs to correct me feel free because I don't wanna mislead here ..

I would order up a new headlight assembly for that side to begin with. They're fairly cheap. Rock auto has em for ~$43 a piece. You might find them cheaper but that's all I looked up..
When it arrives, take your old headlight off and start your work. See if that adjustment screw will come out somehow. Or try turning it multiple times to see if you can 'catch' the threads on the inside adjuster somehow. Maybe use a drill? If not try splitting the lens and taking a look inside. If you don't know how to do this, do your research. There's a thread on blacking out headlights that's stickied to the top. It'll tell u how to remove the lens. You should be able to remove the reflector and whatnot and get access to the adjuster. If it simply needs threaded back on and is fixable then there u go. If not, you already have a new headlight ready to install. And if you do fix your old one, just return the new one for a refund!:)

    lifted,
I had my TRD DCSB lifted. I was blinding oncoming drivers. So, I had service adjust them. When I got the truck back it was daytime. When I drove it at night, the beams were directed nearly straight down. Although the dealership is very friendly and polite, I needed to solve the problem pronto. There are two adjustment bolts. The top on is for Vertical. The bottom is for horizontal. It takes a 8mm socket. Clockwise will raise the Verticle. Clockwise will move the beam left on the horizontal. It was difficult to see the horizontal changes, even though I did it at night and was parked 20 feet from the wall which I used to mark the levels.

Yeah - the problem is that the vertical adjuster on my driver's side light makes no change at all - The other 3 adjusters work fine.

I also found a small crack starting in the passenger lens, so I found a deal on some OEM headlights, and haven't had a chance to change em out yet.
