I'm heading to Azusa Canyon, and its my first time there as a driver. I went about 10 years ago as a passenger, but we never went on any of the trails, just messed around in the mud pit.

Is there a trail guide, or anything for the area? I haven't been able to find one.

Any other recommendations or ideas/tips for the area would be greatly appreciated!

There is really no defined "trail" in Azusa Canyon. Can't get lost.

oh, I keep reading that there's a variety of trail options, ranging in difficulty. Maybe I'll watch some videos of the area to get a better sense of it, and just go for it.

Update us on how big the mud pit area is. I went 3ish monthes ago and I can tell you that we are not in a drought anymore. Pics would be nice.

Honestly, Azusa canyon OHV sucks...it sucks hard. It's just a relatively small, contained sand/rock pit with a big mud puddle at one end full of guys in giant diesels trying to show off and fling mud everywhere. And to top it off, they charge you $8 to get in. Not even worth that.

If mud is your thing, then go have a blast...but if you're looking for a good wheeling 'adventure', that's not the place. I'd recommend heading further down the freeway and doing Cleghorn OHV and/or Pilot Rock (or the Pilot Rock 2n17X trail, the harder one). Or head the opposite direction north on the freeway and do Rowher Flats OHV, Drinkwater Flats, or Gorman/Hungry Valley. Much better 4x4'ing in those areas.

Then of course there's endless 4x4 trails up in Big Bear if you can head up that way.

If you're up for trying something different @DarthPow, I'd be down to show you any of those other trails I mentioned. I'd like to get a little wheeling in this Sunday and would be up for one of those other trails, unless you had your heart set on Azusa. I gave Azusa a second chance about a month ago and told myself I wasn't ever going back lol.

really I have most of the day Sunday. I'm not looking for mudding, if that's all that's there, maybe I'll look into other options. I'd honestly prefer a good trail to mudding.

I've been looking into Cleghorn, but it seems most of the "fun stuff" (i.e. anything other than the flat fire road) would be too much for my truck, especially since I'm going single vehicle.

I'd love to do something around Big Bear, any suggestions for moderate trails?

You should try Pilot Rock. fun easy trail with moderate to advanced side obstacles. Its a great place to get more experience. Some of us are heading there this Sunday if you want to join.

I did not have my heart set on it at all. If you're up for it, I'd love to be shown around some moderate trails around Big Bear.

Big Bear is one of my favorite places to go, in fact this weekend there's a big Tacomaworld meetup/camping trip going on up there. They're aiming to do some of the harder trails though and normally I'd be game for it, but I'm getting married in a couple weeks and need my truck to be in one piece for when I take it up to Santa Cruz the following weekend for my wedding, lol. Otherwise Big Bear has some really fun but tough 4x4 trails.

It sounds like @schecter517 is doing Pilot Rock with a group on Sunday, I'd be up for that one. It's a pretty tame trail for the most part but has some tough side trails that are optional and make for a good time.

Pilot rock is in a beautiful area too with fantastic views of the mountains around Lake Arrowhead, you can even take the fire roads up there at the end of the Pilot Rock trail.

These are some shots from my last couple of trips there.

of course there's no snow out there now, lol. But it's pretty high up and stays relatively cool even if it's hot down below.

You’d like Gorman. Plenty of varied terrain from go fast stuff to small areas that are bit more technical and a few drop offs/hill climbs that can ease you into your truck’s capabilities.
I’m sure @eon_blue won’t steer you wrong at any of the other places he mentioned though.

@schecter517 do you have a private message/convo going on for your Pilot Rock trip this weekend that we could join in on? Or maybe we can start a PM amongst us and whoever else wants in.

I'm 90% sure I can make it work this Sunday but I just need to check in with the Ms. before I commit lol

There's always Miller Jeep Trail out that way too  I think they're closing it for the winter here pretty soon though, I need to get out there and do it again one more time before that happens.

Count me in for that trip. The Mrs was planning on joining for Azusa Canyon, so this change doesn't really affect anything. lol
