I have a 2016 TRD Sport. My head unit starting giving me problems (dropping a call a few minutes in, sound quality is softer, and a lag between video on the phone and sound from the vehicle). I did some digging and understand that it needs a software update. Problem: I can't find the update anywhere! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Mahalo gang.

Your truck asked you if you wanted to update? How did it connect to the internet? My truck didn't even know it was out of date. It just started malfunctioning.

Usually pops up on the screen if there is an update. Uses Entune on your phone to check for update and signals it has one available. I usually wait until i'm back on Wifi to do it instead of cell phone data just to make sure it doesn't glitch.

Mine surprisingly did the same thing the other day. I was really skeptical that it would work.

Yes, I use the older version - 1.29.900.12. I did update to the latest but didn't like it so went back to the older one. Have no idea what is in the head unit, it's magic. It just works, for me anyway. 2017 by the way. My phone is de-googled so does not have all the googly connections to the mothership so had to side load from an APK file instead of Play store because I have no Google account. My situation is probably sort of rare but without Google running in the background not all apps work like they are supposed to so sometimes have to settle for what works the best

There's a big difference between the Over The Air (OTA) updates and the Firmware (FW) updates. An OTA is a small patch that can change a feature or two, or fix a small issue. They're pretty much non-existent on the older 3rd Gens because Toyota doesn't care anymore. The FW updates are huge files that would blow up your data plan if done as an OTA. These mainly fix issues that folks are having with their head units.
