those look like the general truck "craze" at the moment but just happen to be Tacomas. It is what it is, but some of those tires look like they'd be horrible on pavement. I see so many diesels with absurd offset wheels and bald tires. My guess is they financed the wheels and forgot that tires will likely need replacing before they can pay off their credit debt.

Something I would do if I had unlimited funds:

Get 4 or 5 of these things shipped over from Hawaii and do the Rubicon Trail. Just givn’er. Then hit Moab etc.

I guess that’s correct. It’s like getting a Rolex that is water resistant to 1000M, but you are not a diver and would never wear it in the ocean.

I see what you are saying, but Tacomas on the mainland seem more to be styled after the “overland” craze, with utilitarian type stuff bolted on.

I suppose it’s the same kinda thing. I notice the sparkling cleans Maxxtraxx and skid plates with no scratches on the overland tacos as well.

Tacoma culture has a lot of fashion to it.

Nice looking group of trucks. Are there trails to run in Hawaii?

Maybe on the Big Island or Maui or Kauai? Oahu there isn’t a whole lot, especially in comparison to mainland US. I lived there back in the early 2000s and saw a few 4x4s on a couple rocky eastern Oahu beaches regularly and a nice 80s Toyota pickup on boggers at a Big Island beach but that’s about it. Kaena point was a thing but was closed for some time.

Actually most of the Tacomas here are stock. Plenty of trails if you know where to look. Or have the key to the gate!

I'm on Oahu, there isn't many legal places to go offroad. Technically not even legal to drive on the beach, many places from before have been blocked off by boulders and guard rails put there by the State. Other islands have more options for offroading but a lot of times need permission to access from private land owners.

To me these trucks look like the same trucks people build in Florida but here we don't have room/parking for full size lifted trucks nor do we want to afford the $4+ gas they guzzle. I personally think its a bit impractical but hey those guys work hard to live and survive in Hawaii and if thats what they would like to spend their money on then fine by me.

My sister lives on Kauai and every time I’m over there we laugh at all the crazy body and spindle lifted Tacoma’s. Most are crappy 1st gens that have more money in the mods than what the truck is worth. They’re all hideous. I have no idea how someone would feel cool driving that around. But to each their own I guess.

Is it really all that surprising? Toyota brands the Tacoma as a ‘lifestyle’ truck. 14yrs of dominance will create all sorts of ‘lifestyles’.
This isn’t any more ridiculous than all the bolt on mall crawler specials with ALL the gear. Ceramic coated and not a scratch on the skid plate or a nick out of the Ridge Grappler Open Countey M/T 35s. It’s all silly in it’s own way.
These particular trucks remind me of Donks though..79E27513-A25F-4398-B77B-F6E2CAE9D253.jpg

Humans gonna human. It’d be a boring place if everyone did what *you* did to your vehicle. And then you’d just be upset that everyone is doing the same thing.
