I am having trouble finding a 40 amp fuse to fit my 98 4x4 SR5. It's the AM1 fuse for the ignition. I went to O'Reillys and the The Dealer and the one they both have has grooves in the fuse body and fits into the location on fuse box, but not all the way. Where the contacts go into the fuse the slots are offset, whereas the original one is not offset.

The one I got from Autozone has the correct alignment for the terminals, but the body of the fuse does not have grooves, so the fuse will not go all the way down into the correct spot in the fuse box. The old fuse is grey, but all the replacements are green and wont fit right.

Simple work around till you find the correct fuse .

Install a inline fuse with the correct size wire and fuse holder

    Have you checked NAPA?

I'll check NAPA. Junkyard may be an option now that its not 100 degrees out.

If you can't find one that has the appropriate Toyota, also look at Honda vehicles in the same age range.

I was able to find the fuse at NAPA after the Toyota dealer told me they couldn't help me.

Not all Toyota Parts departments are so lazy.

Mine would most often reply I will put the order in we will see what happens.

Since not to many parts for 20 plus year old vehicles on the shelf

Grab a bunch of spare fuses whenever you are at a junkyard. You could probably find this fuse an most Toyota models from this era.

Hi, I was just looking into this fuse a little further.
When you got the fuse from the dealer did you get a green fuse with a clear top and it said 40A? That is a medium current fuse and the part # is 90982-10002.
The other part that I found is also green but the window where it says 40 has a bluish purple tint and the numbers are white, this is a fusible link, I think this is the one you are looking for. Part # is 90982-08284, I hope this helps you out.
    Keep us posted.

Not sure how the order of threads is supposed to work, but I posted earlier that I got lucky at NAPA.

I just wanted to see why the Toyota Dealer couldn't figure it out.

Not all parts counter people are created equal

It took a few years to get my Toyota parts people up to speed.
