I try not to spend much on advertising. Facebook business page, post on NextDoor, and I pin up my business cards at Whole Foods bulletin board. Word of mouth. That’s all free.

I also post on Craigslist for $5/post and they stay up for 30 days, I get a few jobs a week using Thumbtack but they take money off the top, and every once and a while I’ll “boost” a Facebook post and turn it into an ad.

Did you have to get permitted through the city to use the dump? If so, what are they charging you? Obviously, that takes away from profit so are the clients cool with your prices?

nope it’s a public dump. They’re happy to take my money lol. I did go through the county and publish the name of my company but that just a yearly thing. i also have general liability insurance for the company. I’m currently working on city licenses, and buying a used diesel f250 or something similar.

The dump here is public and is free but up to a certain point. Here, they track how many times you come and if it's so many times during the month, they expect you to pay a business fee or by the ton. If yours isn't doing so, that's so awesome for you.

Here, it's 80.00 per ton. I'm not real familiar with how it all works if your below that or if 80 dollars stays the same. The permit is 50 a year and a 1.00 for a sticker. If one loses the sticker, you could get a replacement at 5.00.

I forgot to add at the moment I need to replace the boards on my 16ft trailer. So far youtube has been my friend. Interesting how they bend them in. Would anyone know what kind of boards I should replace with so they could last for a long time? We have quite a few places that specialize in wood around me.

You could probably figure out a method to install a load cell with readout on trailer axle. It wouldn't be exact, but it would give you a better indication of the load than your eyeball guess.

Or find a portable drive-on scale like what the Highway Patrol uses to spot check semis.

Dang, It's $151.33 per ton in King county Washington. No wonder we have so much junk dumped illegally in the woods.

That would make sense although we do have the same problem with illegal dumping, unfortunately.

Ours has a minimum charge of like $36 no matter how little you bring. Then it’s just by weight.

    he he.

Our garbage man will take anything I can haul to the curb. Big items like furniture, we need to call so they can arrange a different truck.

    Working on it ...
Dump where I live it’s free for bulk items, I E old furniture, mattresses, etc. Metal items also unlimited. The metal if I have a full truckload I’ll just take it to the local scrap guy and get like 25 bucks for it or Or whatever scrap metal is going for per pound on that day.

However if you’re doing building supplies such as old flooring, wood, siding, etc. you get two (2) permits per year.

My garbageman seems to have no problem taking whatever I can stick into a black construction garbage bag though. That cost me 20 bucks and a six pack a year at Christmas time :)
