I’ve found that the front tie down points work perfect for securing a strap around the front handle, and that the rear bed tie down points work perfectly for securing the midsection. Super secure and works great!

I have an aluminum canoe that my dad gave me, it's at my uncles house right now about 40 min away. I've been trying to figure out how to transport it in the truck without it sticking too far out. Have you had any issues making turns in traffic?

I’m curious why you don’t have a rack with it secured on top.

From what I understand, as long as you have a little red flag hanging off the back, you can pretty much haul any long objects. I’ve had no issues making turns. Lots of people honk. They must just be into canoes as much as me!

With it being red, do you still have to have a red flad since its sticking out more than 4 ft?

I’m too short to get the canoe up there, but that’s a great idea!

I’ve honestly never considered that. You may be on to something.

Uh... :gossip: it may be ok in Arizona, but we’d never get past the cops with it tied in like that in California.

OK, it’s Friday and I wrote “California”, let it rip...:bananadance:

What the cops don’t understand is that it’s my emotional support canoe.

:rofl:I hear you friend, I wanted a Oldtown, but ended up buying a double folding sea kayak that fits inside the bed. But, there will definitely be a canoe in my future, I want to get lost for a week or two in Boundary Waters with it!

I use both of these together when hauling 3+ kayaks/canoes.

I've heard that those Phoenix canoe trips give a decent upper arm workout

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
OP, that'll work great until you hit a severe pot-hole or bump.. most likely the tailgate is going to win and the canoe is going to stress crack where it's sitting on top of the tailgate.

You should get a rack. Stand on the tailgate with the shell/cap window closed to load the canoe on top of the truck. Stand on the door sills to tie-down the front of the canoe.

I haul multiple paddleboards on top of the truck with the oem rack which works great over the cab combined with a removable Yakima EasyTop over the shell.

The Yakima easy top is secured with e-track single slot tie downs (because I don't need a rack causing extra drag over the shell all the time.) E-track o-ring adapter can be found here.

If you're on a budget you can get knock-off oem racks and pads that are cheaper than the Yakima EasyTop like this one.

    Have fun on the water!
