I’ve heard of recalls, and there is a thread here about white paint flaking. Most of those with a problem were 2017’s. Surely Toyota knows what went wrong and has fixed the problem. Is it safe to buy a 2021 in white?

I don’t see why not. I see plenty of super white in my neck of the woods, all look great.

I find it amusing that they repeated the Mazda Miata problem of the early 90's.

Wonder if they hired the same chemist?

I hope so, I bought one about 6 weeks ago, had I known about it I may have gone with another color... but it does look good and
I look good in it, which is all that matters LOL

I haven't heard of any changes being made. But, there are also plenty of people who haven't had issues as well.

Seems to be more 2017's but that might be due to the passing of time that the newer MY haven't hit yet. Because nothing was released by Toyota about paint makeup/practices changes all we can go off of is speculation and paranoia. To be fair its kind of like yelp reviews. People go out of their way to write a bad review but rarely say that its doing just fine as expected.

there is a small sample size poll on this thread that gives some hope though: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...nt-issue-failure-thread.689940/#post-24391239

was not a tacoma or super white paint issue; looks to have been a sunlight exposure issue on some older toyota, scion and lexus vehicles with blizzard white paint.

Thanks for the link to 15 threads! I couldn’t decide between white or silver. Since I I have the worst luck, I think I’ll go with silver or cement.

Yup, not just a taco problem, my wife’s 2010 white Prius had the same problem with flaky paint.

It's an issue with both super white and blizzard pearl paint. It's a process problem across the Toyota lineup. It has nothing to do with sunlight exposure. My 2016 paint issues started in 2020. So, unless the paint process has been fixed, you'll start seeing newer super white Tacomas with flaking paint. My recommendation is to choose another color, because if it happens after the 36mo/36k mark, Toyota isn't going to help you. See the threads referenced by 6MTPro above.

Yup not big on the white vehicles but wanted a pro and had to have a manual so the color offerings were limited.

i have a super white as well, but it's newer so i don't expect i'd see any issues for many years, but i don't exactly live in state where over exposure to sunlight is really that much of a thing.

what i initially had read was that tacomas were not included in the problem statement from toyota; and also that they extended the warranty to 14yrs on vehicles they identified to have seen problems.

"Toyota has announced a new customer support plan for vehicles with peeling white and blizzard pearl paint. The paint can degrade very rapidly. Some vehicles see the paint begin to come off in as little as one year. The problem affects nearly 2 million vehicles. Models included in the program include the Toyota Camry, 4Runner, Corolla, Avalon, Lexus GX, or Scion IQ or XB. The program will support you whether you are the original owner or purchased the vehicle used."

The program covers certain vehicles with Toyota's Blizzard Pearl (070) or Super White (040) paint colors.

If you have a Toyota with Blizzard Pearl or Super White paint that seems defective please tell us about it in the comments below. Detail your contact with Toyota and how the issue is being handled. Your experience may help a fellow owner.

Toyota White Blizzard Pearl Support Program Phase 1 Notification
Toyota began notifying owners last year in the fall. The owners of Toyotas with white or blizzard pearl paint received a letter notifying them of the upcoming support.

    Phase 2 - Repair
Toyota's second phase will consist of a repair made by your local dealer at no cost to you. Any authorized Toyota Dealership can determine if a condition is covered by this Customer Support Program, not just the one from which the vehicle was purchased.

Contact your dealer if you have an affected vehicle. They will tell you the schedule and plan for repairs to your vehicle. Those owners who wish to have direct contact with Toyota on this issue can call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371 Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.

2020 Toyota Tacoma super white extended bed 4 door sr5 4x4. The paint is dulling in a circle on the left side of my hood. Called Toyota and there isn’t a campaign for them to fix it. It’s after my 36,000 mile 3 year warranty. I only have 53,000 miles on it and there is over 2 million of other cars with this problem. My 06 tundra paint was flawless when traded it in for this one. If anyone here’s of any ways to resolve this issue with out me paying out of pocket let me know please
