I’m honestly tempted to order one of these cheap radios to replace the stock head unit in my 2017. I really would like to have CarPlay, has anyone actually tried one of these Chinese head units on AliExpress

Can’t be any worse than ANY other aftermarket doubled in unit…. Half the cost, let us know how it goes! (Just watch the temp of it)

I’ve ordered a lot of electronics from Aliexpress, and it’s hit or miss. When it hits, you get a great value, when it misses, you’re screwed bc there’s no easy exchange or customer service.

I went with the joying head unit. Cost little more than this one, but I've had great experience so far .

What’s the cost when you factor in other adapters needed to maintain steering wheel controls? Or does it come with that

I ordered this exact unit (The E900) in May and it just arrived last week. Long story short it doesn’t fit ‍

I’m in contact with the vendor to see if this is a fitment issue or if I’m just a huge noob

I have this one in my camper. I dont think its the same as what the op posted. This one is not square and wont fit in the tacoma without some custom work. I 3d printed a bezel just to fit the odd shape in my camper. But otherwise it works pretty good, but Im not trying to use any steering wheel controls or obd stuff.

A lot of the ailexpress stuff can be had on Amazon or Ebay for just a few bucks more and you dont have to wait months for delivery. Ive had quite a few aliexpress stuff never show up at all.

no, i have not. i wouldn't trust an aliexpress head unit to not catch on fire and burn my truck to the ground.

I've heard horror stories for years about these Chinese HU's. They don't seem last more than 1 year.... But that's just what I've heard, never tried them myself!

Ahhhhhhh... thanks for guinea pigging it. Hope they are able to resolve the issue, I received decent (a little slow) on an issue I had with Ali Express before.

OP, that one is different than what you originally posted. The one you posted is square and may fit the kit. This other one is a trapezoid shape. They are all similar but different software, connections and options. If its not made for a Tacoma its a bit of crap shoot if you can get it to work with the trucks OBD and steering controls. Many are using the Corolla programming and it works fine, but if you dont have an option thats close you might be screwed on getting that stuff to work.

Some dont realize it, but the radio is integrated with the OBD and can monitor, display and set many of the settings. If you dont have the correct software you will lose this ability. So I would stick with a unit that says its compatible with the Tacoma to avoid headaches.

They’re sending me a new adapter. The saga continues. Should be here in a few weeks. I’ll update when I have more info.

I can confirm it is the same unit. The “support” person I talked to was the seller from OPs post (AutoJeta). It seems the seller I bought from is reselling, or perhaps the same seller with multiple stores.

I plugged the unit in and EVERYTHING worked! Backup camera, lane keep assist, default microphone.

if they can resolve the fitment issues, I’ll do a full review.
