Im hoping Toyota sells a power outlet all-in-one power outlet package maybe, the Toyota parts website is hard to navigate, has anyone here installed a OEM Power Outlet into the bed of their SR5? Im thinking about downgrading to an SR5 but I will sorely miss that outlet as I use it quite frequently.

    Thanks for any help.

FYI, I stole that pic off the Google.

Might I ask what you used it for? I haven’t used mine yet, but I heard that it is woefully inadequate for almost anything except charging a device.

It's not just the outlet -- you also have to install the power inverter under the center console. Plus, the SR5 may not have the wiring in place for that. I suspect this is a bigger job than you're planning for.

Good point. Didn't think about the factory wiring harness. Most auto manufacture use the same harness on their trims and just cap them off. I'll have to look at it before I buy.

You could really put the inverter anywhere you want to really. It doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal to me. Just making sure it's fused properly and put in a place where moisture won't get to any of it, and you should be good.

There are FAR better aftermarket inverters then the pathetic little thing Toyota sells.

My work vehicle has a 2500 watt output, my last one had a 3000 watt output one. The hardest thing about wiring them is to make sure you use the proper sized wiring on both sides of the inverter. Do not go cheap. Large gauge copper wiring is a must on the DC side and that is the side people try to go cheap on usually. Quality grommet every place wiring is going through metal. Sleeve all wiring everywhere.

Another option would be to just put a 12v outlet in the bed and use a portable inverter that you can keep in the cab when not in use. That way if it ever craps out, you can just find another inverter, no big deal. I keep an inverter in the back of my SUV and it works great.

    This works also.
Wen was selling 2k inverters on sale for around $330 with free shipping last fall [free shipping is a big thing with generators due to weight] They are very quiet, run 9 hours on a gallon of fuel and are fine for use with electronics. They are pretty small and start easily and have multiple outlets. I actually bought 2, one for me, one for my son. FAR more useful then the little Toyota one and remember, you have to run the truck to run the inverter so that one gallon every 9 hours saves you a ton of fuel and idle time on your truck engine.

Thats what I was thinking. OP, you should install the bed outlet, but run the wires to a higher powered after market inverter behiind the rear seats. Most higher output inverters have more than 1 plug, so you can have one in the rear and one inside the truck with a much higher output than the OEM one.

OK, yeah, sounds like something after market with more power is going to be the best option. Appreciate you all!

    Thanks.

Glad you clarified because I was a little lost here... my '20 SR5 has this stock (Canada).

Wen is having a on line sale right now with FREE SHIPPING on 2250w inverter generators for $385. They are VERY nice generators with some VG features. Easily carried and portable and very quiet. [seriously] Far more useful then most inverter truck generators and can be paired easily. You can set these on the floor in the back of a double cab easily.

That free shipping is a hell of a deal on top of the sale pricing. Easily saves you around $75 or more.

I have one on my Canadian 2019 SR5 too. We get a power outlet but no power sliding rear window like the US models tho.

A bigger inverter is nice but make sure the rest of the DC system will support it. More watts out means more watts (amps) in. At idle, the OEM alternator might not support 2kW. 2kW @ 120v is 16 amps, assuming zero losses.

2020 4x4 SR AC 2.7 liter - Bare Bones Base Model
For what it's worth, this is what I did.. (2020 SR AC)
I bought a 1000w Harbor Freight inverter (And before you laugh, I've bought 3 of them over the last 12 years and they all still work fine to this day..)
Anyway, I wanted something inside the cab ... So I could just reach in back and it was there. If I needed power for outside, just run a cord through the back window.
Mounting was simple as I just have a flat panel in back between the jump seats.
I used 6 guage wiring. The ground was very short that attached to one of the bolts for the jump seat. The positive, I ran under the rear floor mat... Wire tucked up on the bottom edge of the center console... Up under the dash with zip-ties ... Poked a hole in the rubber boot where the main wiring harness goes through between the cab/engine bay .. Tried to hide the wire in the engine bay best as possible and bolted to the battery terminal.
I soldered all connections .. Used shrink tubing over the solder joints ... And some split-loom to pretty things up a bit.
    Anyway, this is how it turned out..inverter 002 copy.jpg inverter 003 copy.jpg

I've used mine for a full size blender and it worked fine even without the truck running. I've also heard people using crock pots on the low setting while driving.

Don't forget your sizing based off the DC side. When your AC side is drawing 16 amps the load on the DC side is much higher.
