Yes been done a few times with swapping bulbs, easy to do.

I was thinking of doing this but with an led bulb pointing down near the map lights. Our Subaru Outback has this and it's incredible.

btw, shouldn't be posted in the Marketplace, wrong place.

I have seen it done by someone on here. They changed it out in their build thread to white. Seems like it would be irritating after a while. Might have been aaronarf

I did it in my map light, but just the passenger side. I like that it's not so blinding at night. We use em in the back of the fire engine when responding at night, as not to interfere with the drivers eyes. Still able to see whatever you are looking at, reading, etc. definitely worth it to me. Don't think I would do the dome, but to each his own.

That's Robert Barlow, screen name @barlowrs Haven't seen him around in years.

I've done the dedicated independent red led module in both the map light and dome. Kept the white bulbs too. Details in my build thread.

Map lights. Works well for me since I already have issues seeing at night.

I did the map lights with dome light mod and switched to red leds. VERY effective for running the lights without compromising night driving vision, VERY poor for finding your lighter when you drop it. Just went back to white leds in the map and dome. Still running red surface mounts from Oznium.com tied into the climate control lighting circuit.

I put a red LED in the driver's side map light, left a white one in the passenger's side so can use whichever the need dictates.

I had red dome and map lights for a year or so but honestly unless it's real dark out you won't see crap. Riding down a dark highway sure no problem, and it looks badass. I now run green leds in both map and dome light, much much brighter.

Best option if you want to do red is like people are saying, do a mix. So what I'd do is have red map lights and a white dome or something.

Warning, when you put the LED white dome light in backwards, make sure the switch is in the off position when you look up to turn it around.

Like several others- I put an incandescent red bulb in the passenger side map light for night time vision. Love it. It's Perfect. When there's no surrounding light, it fills the front seats with a nice soft red glow that won't compromise road vision, yet allows you to easily see things in the cab.

And I have a Sylvania 194 white led in the drivers side map light for when I need bright light.
