    likely the oil pump seal
When I replaced, the seal came with the AISIN rockauto oil pump

mine (as u can see) was leaking like stuck pig
    As well as T-cover gaskets/oil pan/distributor O-ring/valve cover

    glad that project(s) are over

God... it is such a mess....everything in a constant plane gets soaked....

right at the front of your new alternator......thats the plane....

Since there is no oil in that pulley......there's three sources for oil out of that area...

1st....and most common is the oil pump cookie gasket has turned to dust.......
and now you have 'little Niagara' of oil.....

2nd) very rarely the front main seal fails....timing cover has to come off...

3rd)......and worse scenario is the harmonic balancer has wore out and has wobbled enough...
too crack the inside of the timing cover where the oil pump gear sits and meets the harmonic balancer seal ....on the back inside of the timing cover..

and that one will be a curved hair line crack right at the crankshaft base on timecover backside......that is the devil to find.....

If you've tightened up your HB.....and it still wobbles ....a lot....its probably too late...

Wonder how I know all this.........some nites...nightmares....all nite long......

    I need therapy.............or a 4-runner to restore......
