Hey, new member here! I'm very excited about the Tacoma I recently bought! My last truck was a Dodge Ram so the gas mileage of the Tacoma is very impressive.

I bought it used. It has a hard tonneau cover. I would never buy that cover on my own, but since it came with, I have it. I am considering removing it. What do you experienced truck people see as the pros and cons of having the hard cover? Is there really much advantage to it? Is there much of a re-sale market for them?

    Welcome to Tacoma World!!!
I have a hard tonneau cover and love it. Keeps my gear clean and dry in winter leaving the cab free for other things like people, pets and what ever else come up. It also keeps things out of sight from the would be thief. The only draw back l have are larger items. However depending on the tonneau you may be able to remove it quite easily. As far as selling it again it depends on the tonneau cover.
My advice would be to simply Try it out for a few and see what you think. My guess you will love it. Oh and if your a neat freak you can buy a cheep plastic tool chest to keep things in order under there.
Enjoy your truck and welcome to Tacoma World!

I wanted a hard cover for my '99, and paid $300 for it. So there is a market :D

Its quite heavy, though, so opening it is a bit of a struggle, but my 4' 11" wife can handle it. Its lockable and color matched (I was lucky there !).

I can remove it by my self (devised a way to suspend it in the garage from the roof) on the rare occasions I need to haul tall stuff.

I put an UnderCover on my '09 AC, real pleased with it. It is super strong, will support two men standing on it, lockable, has two gas springs to hold it up yet only weighs ~60 pounds.

Aside from the pluses previously listed it also has the advantage, over a topper, of not getting the back glass all splashed up when driving in the rain.

If you're looking for a used one check your AZ listings on here or there's always CraigsList. Sometimes the local topper dealers take some used one's in on trade and you might find a deal.

Depends on whether you need to secure items in the back of your truck. If so.......I needed this function so it was a no-brainer. Since it is already there, why change?

Well it just seems like everything I put in a truck bed would go in easier without the cover-like a kayak, bicycle, etc.....If I remove it, how difficult is it to put back on? Can it be done pretty easily with 1 person?

i thought the tonneau would be the first thing gone when i bought my truck bout i tried it for a little and i love it now. it is heavy and unhandy to remove but i rarely do. i always keep my straps, tie downs, boots, etc in the bed so i dont have to worry bout them being rained/snowed on or stolen so its nice
