I need to look at the stands we have down in the stable - my father-in-law loved to shop Harbor Freight.

Some things are good to buy at HF...jack stands not really. I have a set and never trusted them with my life.

Well, there it is. I'm glad I didn't go with HF for the 6-tons I just bought. Wrenches and sockets all day. "Hell no" on safety equipment.

I have a pair of the 6 tons and have used them for years. I'm going to swap them out for a new set to err on the side of caution but I would say the majority of stands are not affected. Just better for them to cover their asses and replace all that they can.

Thanks for the heads up on these. I'm using the now recalled 6 ton version while I restore the brake system on my 46 Willys jeep. Scary!

Good looking out! I used the 3-ton stands when I had my Genesis Coupe. Looks like I'll be taking these back this weekend and upgrading my stands.

I'm also pretty dang certain that ANY brand of jack stand with a sudden "shift in weight" will have the same issue.

I have a set and got the notice this morning.

I actually had one of mine slip a notch and drop my truck an inch when I pulled my snow tires off a couple months ago. Nothing got damaged and I still have all 10 fingers & toes but seriously fuck those jack stands.

Exactly, there isn't much to a jack stand to really fail. I'm sure some yahoo just filed a lawsuit against them and this is part of the resolution.

Given what was posted, the pawl slipping, it looks like you are using yours at the lowest setting. So, not much of a worry there? Just my observation.

I have some old stands that I bought from a flea market decades ago. They look a lot like HF ones or any other bargain set. I never had a worry using them. Most times, they are secondary to the jack.

I'm sure they are fine as the jeep has been on them for quite a while given my slow progress on this project. I also have a pair of 3 ton stands under the front axle for my own piece of mind. I'm just one of those people who gets paranoid working on cars while on stands, so I go overkill when I do!
