I finally received the notice from Toyota that they now have the "fix" in stock and they asked me to bring in my 2019 TRD Sport to have the fuel pump replaced for free per the recall. While I hated to do it, since just going to the dealer is a pain, still, I figured that it would be better than have it "go out" right in the middle of a trip somewhere. So I made an appointment at the dealer where I bought the truck, and took it in on June 1 2021. As the recall notice said, it took them about 2 hours and it was done. I know everybody has their own opinions, but since this was something that could potentially stop the truck in the middle of driving, I felt that it was better to just go ahead and get it done. I hated the fact that my vehicle was recalled, and looking back at my old 1996 Tacoma, it was NEVER involved in a recall! Anyway, I got it done and I am glad it is over with. Hopefully, no more recalls! I thought I would post just in case anyone is wondering whether or not to do it. This was just my experience and my thoughts on the matter. Hope this helps someone!

I'm due to get mine done. I'm nervous as I've had a bad experience with others working on my vehicles almost every single time. I guess i take a lot of pride in my vehicles and DIY everything. I don't really want to get it done but think I should. Maybe i need to have a talk with the service manager prior to the work being done and let him know my concerns.

Had mine replaced under the recall a couple months back and have had no issues. There's been an handful of people on here who have had failures and it sounds like a bad time. I'd recommend having it done to be safe.

Having the fuel pump recall, state inspection, 20,000 mile service (oil and filter change) and also having them check creaking clutch under the TSB this Friday. So far had no issues with the dealer, hope it continues.

FWIW, I had my pump replaced at the dealer about 3 months ago and have had no issues. Just turned over 40k miles.

I had mine replaced a few months ago. I didn't really have any major issues before the fix, and I've had no issues after the fix.

Before I had the recall done, there were a few times where the truck would stall/bog out after start up.

Had my pump replaced at the dealer today. Took about 2 hours, everything seems good so far. Before the pump was replaced I would notice the truck had a problem starting on a steep hill from a stop. Tested it out today and the problem was gone. While it was there had the state inspection and 20k service done. So far I have no complaints with the dealer. Services have been performed professionally.

I just scheduled my appointment to replace the pump at the dealership, just because DMV won’t let me renew my plates… let’s see how it goes

What? Now this is interesting! What state are you in? I didn't know that DMV knew anything about recalls, and certainly I didn't know they would hold up your renewal because of this! Wow. Very interesting...

It's free, get it done and over with..and having a fuel pump puke isn't fun.

Never an issue with my local dealer and I've had a couple of recalls done on mine..it's currently getting a frame swap.

California. It was a rollercoaster of events, but just throwing it out there in case someone else is in the same position as I am. I received the recall letter with the new fix about a month and a half ago, ignored it.

I also received my CA DMV renewal notice around the same time, but I procrastinated and didn’t pay it, figured I still had plenty of time (at that moment the DMV webpage was allowing me to pay, but didn’t-idiot). I’m guessing that at that point they hadn’t been informed that the truck had an open recall, so… lucky me.

Glad everything is going well with the new and updated pump, we’ll see on Monday…

Wow. I am also in CA, and I renewed my truck which was due in April, but you know how they do, they send out the renewal almost two months in advance, so I actually renewed mine online around the 1st of March, before I actually got the notice to bring the truck in. And my truck is running just as good as it did before I had the recall done, so no complaints here either. I am glad I had it done, so I just don't have to worry about it later on. This was a very interesting post, so I appreciate it. I had no idea recalls got reported to DMV and that they would not renew unless you had taken care of the recall. I knew "big brother" was watching, but man, this was a new one to me! Thanks, man!

I just renewed my CA registration without issue and have not had the fuel pump replaced. This the first I've heard about CA DMV having recall information.

Apparently, CA needs to keep track of everything and everyone. No surprise that they’re tracking fuel pumps too.

Going in Tommorrow for the Recall. Wish me luck. I'm gonna tell the service manager I don't want ANYTHING done other than the fuel pump recall. We'll see if he listens or not. Hoping for the best.

Forgot to update. Got mine done, no issues.

I also told them about this exactly “nothing else, everything is fine, besides I don’t want to take time from your techs and I need to get back to work”. I was concerned they would fry my TSS with an update, but they didn’t. Good luck tomorrow!

Took it in with an almost empty fuel tank. They said it was going to take about 2.5 hours, but I left it at 11:30 and was ready by 15:30. No issues afterwards, it’s been over a week without noticing anything different.

Good to know on time. My fuel light is just about to come on as well so I'm hoping this helps them out.
