    Good morning all,

I have done the H11 to H9 headlight bulb conversion. I actually switched from led bulbs that I got from diode dynamics. That was before I read the huge headlight bulb thread. Since reading the the thread I have the Philips H9 made in Germany. It might just be me but they don't seem much brighter.

Other than changing to the TRD Pro LED lights. Is there any brighter H9 bulbs?

There's a limit of how much of an increase can be found before the resulting "improvement" becomes a blinding hazard for opposing traffic.

The increasing proliferation of assholes running illegal headlights has cost me over $50 so far...1" diameter hardened steel balls aren't cheap

H9 is as good as you're going to get in the stock housing. You've already got the best option.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't had a chance to use them out in like the countryside or wooded area. Just been around town back and forth to work.

They work better than you think they do even if you can't necessarily tell.

Sometimes people mistake a "white" (cooler temp) light as a brighter light, and fail to pay attention to what's really important, which is the useable throw. Some LED's or other bulbs will give you this super bright white blob of light in front of you, and at first glance it seems impressive... then you realize immediately beyond that blob is a wall of darkness... then, you end up aiming headlights higher to mitigate, which blinds oncoming traffic; or you end up with a bulb that doesn't focus the beam properly, and then same thing, you're blinding oncoming traffic.

I've walked the path of trying different bulbs, HID's, etc... and ultimately landed on the H9 as the best solution for me. Immediate impression was also that it's not as bright, but then you realize you can actually see way further down the road; without getting flashed.

That's why I switched. I noticed that light was great directly in front of me. Then I almost hit a deer and was like WTF how did I not see her.

I read that as if he personally had 1" steel balls instead of testies..maybe that's where the anger stems from.

K did the H11 to H9 conversion about 9 months now very happy with results, living in northeast I noticed that the guys that have LED's (bulbs or oem headlights) have a icing problem in wet snow conditions, good for thought, he safe

I was running stock bulbs. Then upgraded to some LED bulbs that were supposed to be decent in halogen projectors. Then I did the H9 phillips upgrade. It made a huge difference. Although I don't like the halogen color, it makes a bigger difference than you think - especially during those darker no-moon nights. I could see much further than the whiter LED color.

Pretty happy with mine if I'm honest.

Agreed, I almost tried the Hikari Ultras but couldn’t justify the $90 price after reading some reviews about one bulb failing after a year. Ended up buying 3 sets of the Philips H9s from Rock Auto for $6 a bulb

I’m just subbing for the impending how-to testicle to steel ball swap thread…. :burp:

Also, I’ve run Hikaris for 2 1/2 years now, same set. And you can usually get them for as low as $50 if you just watch for the usual big sales. Black Friday, Labor Day, those kind of things.

I just swapped the H11s out for the H9s. Just drove a few miles tonight to see the difference. Seemed to be able to see further than before. Not a huge difference, but significant enough to tell.
