I was in the market for a sturdy dog kennel for traveling with my pup (45 pound Lab/GSP mix). The gunner intermediate size kennel is a perfect fit for my pup. It’s good to know my dog will be the most safe while traveling in case we ever get into a serious crash.

Both rear seats are folded down and the intermediate fits perfectly in the cab either or driver side it passenger side. Only downside is I lose my rear view mirror visibility regardless which side it is on. I will point out that the driver side rear seat can remain up and not folded. The kennel needs at the minimum the passenger side rear seats that folds down with the middle seat to be folded down.

I was curious to see how it would fit while waiting for delivery (or if it even will fit.) Just happy to report it fits well if anyone else is shopping around for a gunner kennel.

lMK if any of you have questions.

Nice. If I had only 1 dog I would do this but I have 3. A 56 lbs pitbull, a 50 lbs black lab mix, and a 25 lbs jack Russell mix. I have them in dog seat belts and the dock back seat hammock.

Oh yeah nice. I just have 1 at the moment so this will work great. Had my dog on a harness and clip in seatbelt before as well

I run the same setup. It does fit - but i must say it is a bit of a task to get in and out of the truck as it barely clears. I run it on the passenger side and to get it in the truck I have to fold the bottom of the rear drivers side seat forward but leave the back of that seat in the upright position, get the front of the kennel started from the drivers side, then go around to the passenger side and pull it across. Once it's over on the passenger side you can fold that rear driver side seat back forward also. It fits like a glove once it's in but the clearances are really tight on getting it through the back door. With that said - i have the original Gunner intermediate (before the medium existed and before the back vents were on the kennel). The horizontal dimensions may have changed over the years. Ironically - i will fit in the back seat of my Tacoma but not the back seat of my 4 door GMC 1500 work truck as it wont clear the door jam.

Roger. No clearance issues with me. Easy in and out. I’m 5’11 and I think it all has to do with recline angle and seating position as I can see a matter of an inch or two will make it difficult for sure

I’m surprised you’re able to fit it in the backseat. I put my large in the bed. I have two dogs so if I have to bring both of them I use my rufflands as two gunners don’t fit in the bed. F9CFBF70-CC1E-4160-A3FD-C96CE9AAB652.jpg

Looks good. Not too sure if I large would fit in the cab but the intermediate for sure fit nice in and out. Seating positions may have to be re adjusted but no adjusting for me required

Glad I found this post because I wasn't even going to attempt to fit my intermediate Gunner in the back seat. So thanks. It's a very satisfying, snug fit; I gotta say I'm quite happy with it. Looks like it'll come in and out pretty easy if needed.

Also placed it on the passenger side which leaves room for a back seat passenger.

Hey all - I’ve got a 2022 double cab and a Gunner Intermediate. My goal is to have the Gunner sit level on the 60-split rear seat folded down. I’ve tried putting the kennel in from both the driver and passenger rear doors, and both ways it’s getting stuck on the 60-split seat bottom which is folded up to allow the back to lay flat. I had the most progress entering through the drivers side so far but couldn’t get it all the way over to the passenger side.

Does anyone have pictures of your setup without the gunner in? Any added tips or instructions would be great too. I see a few of you got it in there, so I have hope! Thank you!

Genuine question for the folks who put their gunner in the rear seat area. What’s your reason for not putting it in the bed with the strap kit?

Hey, fair question, for me there are a few parts:
First is that I grew up with dogs in SUVs and Vans, so I'm really just more comfortable with that
Second is that we have a small, young puppy and want to keep a close eye on her
And third, we're planning a 6-ish hour road trip in a few weeks that'll go through some hot terrain, so we'd want her in the AC with us
Our back row is empty as no one sits back there, so she may as well have the added comfort

I used to do that, then the dog explosive diarrhea-d himself every two hours as I was moving across the country. After that I keep him in the cab so I can tell if he's getting agitated on long drives before it reaches emergency status.

Just a heads up the gunner and really any crash test rated kennel only achieve those ratings while strapped into the bed of the truck. Unless they are strapped in you spent 700 dollars on a kennel that's no safer than a 150 dollar petco kennel. I only say this for the safety of your dog not to flame you or talk shit.

Awesome setup guys! OP mentioned rear window is obscured so I thought this might be of interest to some of you. I recently installed a Ali-Cab canopy camper and lost all visibility out the rear and installed this rear view camera. It’s a Game Changer.

Not a Tacoma guy but forums with this kind of info are great, regardless. I’m in a 2005 F250 with a 60/40 crew cab. Deleted the 60 and installed a level platform for my GSP. Still have the 40 behind the rear passenger. G1 Intermediate fits great, with space.

In terms of crash rating, the location of the kennel isn’t the factor. Instead, it has to do with a combination of several factors like appropriate kennel size and the use of the crash-rated tie down straps. You’ll see that mine have yet to be installed. I’ve got a few mods to made before Bandit gets home.
