For those that own one: Has anyone successfully fit two in the bed? I have an intermediate sized one and I’m hoping to squeeze a second one next to it.

On paper it shouldn’t fit, but the wheel well housing actually gets wider the higher up you measure. I fit a Large Ruff Tough kennel next to it recently ..

Did you ever figure this out? Wonder the exact same thing...was hoping to avoid building a platform

Inside the wheel wells it’s 43” at the bottom and 45” at the top. You need 46”, right?

On paper, yes. Curious if it was tried where you can find an ~1-2” to squeeze somewhere. The gunner kennels aren’t perfectly square on the sides either. They flair out from the bottom to the middle

a couple of 2 X 4's under one or both to raise one or both up higher and allow the taper of the kennels to work with the taper of the wheel wells and give more room width-wise???

    Alright...reporting back with so-so news.

Short is they don't fit (well) between the wheel wells. The below picture took some love to get into place.

    Image from iOS (24).jpg

I'm limited due to the topper. I can't build a full platform above the wheel wells since the crates are too tall. But...I think if I get a couple 4x4s and secure them to the bed to raise it within the wheel well towards the top of the taper it might work. Ill be going to the hardware store later to see if I can make this work.

I tried by just shove something below one crate and it fit quite a bit better. Pretty sure I can them close to even with the right elevation.

A little deceptive due to wide angle lens, looks better in person.

Good news! I was able to get it to work with a set of 4x4's. Cut one for the back and one for between the wheel wells. May want to build something a little more permanent...but this works for now. It didn't require any force to get them to sit next to each other.

These are two intermediate crates side by side.

Thanks for responding. This looks great

Did you attach the 4x4s to the bed? Do you have a pic without the kennels installed ? It looks like you raised it roughly 2”?

Thinking about doing the same, but with aluminum since I have an open bed

    thanks

I did not attach them to the bed (yet). I ratcheted the crates down so I'm going to see how this works first. I will build something more permanent if it seems like it'll be an issue.

Unfortunately I got ahead of myself and didnt take a pic with just the wood in place. I just bought an 8ft 4x4 and cut two pieces. One approximately 42" between the wheel wells and the other at 53" for behind the wells.

The 4x4's measure at a true 3.5" so that's how much the crates are currently raised.

They need short legs attached and rubber mat so they don't slide on the bed.

@dubsout - Thanks for sharing your setup. I'm thinking about something similar and wanted to see if you had any insight now that you've had this for a little while. How's the setup working out for you? How are your dogs doing in the kennel inside the topper? What size/breed of dogs do you have VS size of kennel? Any other feedback or insights would be great. Thanks!

FYI - Two large Ruffland crates will fit between the wheelwells. Good for 70lbs dogs. XL should also fit - crates will be taller and block more of the view out of the back window.

Ruff lands are pretty good, I have one. The shipping costs are outrageous though. Quality is nothing near Gunner...

But awesome to put inside of a truck. Lighter too, which makes it a lot easier to maneuver
