Given the fact that this is your second go around - I figured you had thought that through. Couldn’t help but mention it, though.

On a different note. I wonder why they don’t put stake pockets on the bed rails. Does the composite bed side not offer the strength needed to have something like that factory?

There are stake pockets, under the factory caps.
If you want them visible, there's an "upgrade" Top-Rail-Stake-Pocket-Cap!!.

Then you run the course where the canopy will not seal.
Hey, it's your truck. Do as you see fit.
If the man does not like it, you'll know.

By the way, it makes more sense to post a link
to add to what's been already said.
It keeps the topic from looking like the back of a scrappers truck.

I have thought about just getting a black can of spray paint or matte black and painting the wood black. not sure how it would turn out though

Yes, this is the reason I have heard. Most trucks have a metal bed, which can support a stake.... they tacomas composite plastic would just bend or crack or at least cannot support one.... really sucks cause it would make my life significantly easier if it had stake holes

And now I’m searching for pictures of the bed rails with the caps off because I have obviously never removed mine.

A bed "stake-side" for these cheesy new Tacomas could be made very easily, without utilizing the the stake pockets.
But I'll leave that for another thread.

I do not think I have ever seen stake pockets, and I had the plastic sides off on my old tacoma Im pretty sure..... but perhaps I missed them. in that forum post you linked I have posted these side things before. I had searched the forum for inspiration to solutions (that thread specifically) before making mine.

One problem with turning the bed of the truck into a hauler, the way you're doing, is side load. The way the bed/box is made, it's not structurally built for doing so.
    Here's a search I performed

When you load the truck the way you (and others) do, it splays the top of the bed out. People who use ratchet straps across the top (left to right) keep that outward force contained, given the load. That's the best I've seen anyone come up with yet, for a solution. And that method is still not ideal.

I do not think it is unreasonable for people to load up a pickup truck with stuff, that is their whole purpose. Trucks are meant to do work and move items. I do understand there is some risk though. Hoping for the best though...

I do have a ton of ratchet straps.... I could add that to help for particularly large loads

Looks like a stolen street sign post in there. Better be careful with that.

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir , but maybe try to find a small utility trailer? You can find a nice used one for pretty cheap. I know it’s helped me a lot

This was from a clean out from a guy who died. It very well may have been, however it was unlabeled and was in the bottom of a pile that had probably been there 10+ years.

Yep! I have one! Sometimes I fill both, sometime I am going somewhere I'd rather not try to get a trailer into. I have a trailer and use it when I can, the side fence is just for times when I need even more space or dont feel like using the ttrailer
