Go aftermarket. Modern Toyota windshields are weak as hell and it'll probably just happen again.

I say "modern" because it took 15 years for my 04 to finally get a rock chip, yet you hear stories about newer vehicles getting chipped and cracks from tiny rocks and even just cold weather.

I got a nasty chip almost the size of a quarter. I was worried. Glass shop near my house fixed it for less than $40. It spidered internally within the chip the next week. I brought it back asking if it could be filled again. They offered to refund the money (I refused that) and said just to monitor it. It's been about 6mo with no issue or spreading.

So, I would suggest checking with a small, non-corporate shop that has good online reviews?

Where is the chip in relation to drivers view or the camera? Why cant it be repaired?
I havent used one myself, but they do make kits you can do at home. I would probably try that first. Whats the worst that can happen?

Yikes. Is that just because of all the fancy cameras? On my 2017, USAA filled in my cracks for free (so to speak). They said if the entire windshield needs replacement, I'd just pay my standard auto claim deductible of $500 or whatever.

just driving down a two lane wooded road (speed limit is 50mph) and out of nowhere I hear a loud bang/pop. I look around the windshield and saw some dust/debris from a rock near the top corner. Couldn’t stop to see because there were people behind me and there’s nowhere to stop on that road. There was not a single car in front of me. When I got to where I was going, sure enough there was some dust/debris still clung on the glass and some scratches. I was pissed for a few days but now it’s just meh.

After market glass $455 BUT dealer said if the electronics don't work properly or the pins are not correct near the mirror you're on your own as far as warranty. Also it may not calibrate correctly and a warning message may appear on the dash.

That "chip" appears to be sizable. I see a good sized crack leaking off it.

I'm fortunate enough to live in a state with zero deductable on glass. That would suck to pay that.

Confused. What does the state have to do with a auto insurance choice? I was offered a choice . $1000 , $500 , or 0 deductible for Comp coverage. I choose the wrong one. The price goes up with the lesser deductible. This is my second glass damage in over 50 years. It's all about the gamble. My post was to show it is expensive glass replacement.

some of this, a little of that
some states do not make you pay the deductible on windshields:

Which States have Free Windshield Replacement Laws?
The following states have insurance laws that specifically address windshield replacement or repair:

    • Kentucky — A “zero deductible” state when it comes to windshield replacement and auto glass replacement.
    • Florida — Florida also requires insurers to waive the deductible on windshield claims (but not necessarily on other auto glass).
    • Arizona — In Arizona, from Avondale, Peoria, Scottsdale, and Tempe to Chandler, Flagstaff, Gilbert, Glendale, Phoenix, Surprise, Tucson, Mesa, and beyond, you have the option of purchasing a separate auto glass endorsement or waiver when you purchase auto insurance. If you have such an endorsement or waiver, you will not need to pay your full deductible when you have your windshield replaced.
    • Massachusetts — Massachusetts is frequently cited as a “zero deductible” state, but that’s a bit of a misnomer in this case. You may have friends in Worcester who paid nothing while another friend in Springfield and your coworker in Lowell, Massachusetts had to pay a $100 deductible. The reason for varying rates has to do with the option to get a separate auto glass deductible on your policy. Whether you live in Cambridge, New Bedford, or Brockton, the choice you make when purchasing your auto insurance policy will impact whether or not you get a free windshield replacement as part of your insurance claim. In Massachusetts, you have the option to purchase a comprehensive policy with free windshield repair and replacement or a policy with a $100 windshield deductible.
    • New York — In New York, insurance companies can offer policies that do not have a deductible for auto glass replacement.
    • South Carolina — Another “zero deductible” state for windshield and auto glass replacement claims. Whether you live in Columbia, Charleston, North Charleston, Rock Hill, Greenville, Summerville, or Sumter — or anywhere else in South Carolina for that matter, if you have comprehensive auto insurance and a damaged windshield, you will likely qualify for a free windshield replacement.
