Had a new thing pop up last week. Noticed that when I’m braking the truck makes a creaking/ rubbing (I dunno how to describe it) noise from the back of the truck just as it is coming to a stop.

Took the rear drums off and all looked fine. Plenty of pad left on the shoes.... drum surface appears okay.

Had my wife drive it by me and stop. Oddly enough I think it’s coming from the springs??!!

    Any thoughts?

Probably leaf spring bushings. Lube them up really well and try again. Might be time to replace with some poly bushings. Get in the bed and bounce it some....easy way to tell if it's the springs.

It does creak a bit if I bounce the back of the truck.... hmm. I thought I saw a Leaf spring Squeak TSB out there a while back. Same solve? I’m out of warranty so will probably do that one myself..

The leaf springs squeak sometimes. Especially after puddles or sandy roads.

You can open the leaf pack up and put silencing pads in between the leafs. Some people have used a bike inner tube but can't remember how well that works.

Odd thing is that the sound is more like like a tire rubbing on something at a high spot. I’ll try to get a video of it later... but good lead on Bushings and Leaf pads. I can try that next weekend to see.

RBaptist did you find the cause of the creaking noise? I just bought used 2014 and it does this as well. I also just discovered today that it makes the sound when parked and pressing the break pedal hard. The rear brakes were also serviced to try and solve the problem when it was still at the dealer (I think drums and shoes replaced) but didn’t make a difference. There is no to very little sound from the leaf springs when jumping up and down on the bumper. I’d appreciate anyone’s help with this. Thank you!

Well not sure yet. It still happens every now and then - not constant. My bet is the leaf springs though....

Thanks for the response! Mine does it all the time whenever breaking. Good luck figuring it out. I guess I’ll just plan on living with it. Loud radio helps, but I can slightly feel the vibration through the brake pedal. If anyone else had any ideas I’m all ears.

I have been experiencing a very similar thing with my truck. At first I thought it was cold metal creaking as I am out the door before 6AM and it's been rather cold here in NY the past few months. However, even as the truck warms up, the creaking is still there. The noise is particularly bad when the front of the truck moves forward as I break- when the weight of the truck shifts to the front- flexing the rear. It is definitely coming from behind me. Acceleration from stop on a hill also causes this noise, but not as bad. I have spent over $50 on various spray lubricants and hit every single point I can find, even exhaust mounts in an attempt to stop the creaking. At first I thought it was the leaf packs but I have good bushing- no cracks, they are centered, and the spacers are all still there. It's driving me kinda nuts that I can't find the source of this noise. I think it might be coming from the bed mounting hardware because it doesn't exactly sound like metal on metal. And when I jump on the rear bumper the sound is coming from higher up in the truck, above the suspension. I dunno- like I said it's making me mental and I'm starting to imagine things that aren't there.

I’m having the same issue. I just replaced my leaf springs, bushings, and ubolts and I thought the problem was gone but after going on a dirt road it’s back. I can hear it from inside the cab and it sounds like it’s on the passenger side. It’s hard to explain it kind of sounds like metal on metal but not really just kind of a groan upon acceleration or braking or basically anytime the weight shifts to the front or the rear flexes.I have retorqued everything and the problem is still there.

Sorry to revive an old thread but does anyone else have any suggestions? It’s driving me crazy especially with all new leafs and bushings.

I finally got the creaking to stop. During a state inspection I asked the shop if they could lube all the joints and bushing in the rear and front suspension. They put my truck on the lift to relax the whole suspension and really got into every nook and cranny. If has stopped ever since. I still hit the leafs w some spray silicone lubricant after a day at the beach but that's more of a precaution.

That sounds like axle wrap…it’s the leaf springs and/or the driveline slip yoke.
