Right, but that isn't why they installed shutters. They installed them to be more fuel efficient and aerodynamic when cooling is not needed...not to help the engine warm up faster. Modern engines, turbo or not, don't warm up well on their own at low speed or idle conditions. You need to be moving and using the engine to generate heat.

The shutters may have a very slightly warm up effect, but that isn't why they are there or needed. It is just yet another device to chase after the almighty mpg.

In my experience, that happens even not in super cold climates. The heater core is ultimately a second smaller radiator, so depending on the routing of the coolant and how that coolant returns to the system, the temps can absolutely drop a bit. Ultimately though, the bottom line and my point is that if you are driving and the thermostat is closed, you are building heat and will warm up.

It has a water control valve, which is ultimately executing the same function.

The temp gauge never reached the midway point that day and the HVAC never put out that much heat. When temps get that low it does affect engine temps. At -20F the IATs are really not helping the engine warm up.

With the shutters, when it’s negative temperatures, my Macan would struggle to stay above 200°F unless I was moving.

Well I’ve already got a prototype I was fine tuning. It’s a little more compact and self contained but does the same thing. I dm’d them to see if they’d sell it individually, tbd

Running a direct injection engine cold will dilute the oil with fuel. The shutters help regulate the temperature of the engine.

I forgot but not only does it do that but on the F150 it also helps with condensation build up in the intercooler.

You guys should discuss temperature regulation in a new thread and let this guy have a place to talk about the product he's designing

It was for myself but if someone else wants one it’ll definitely be reprintable once I nail down the design. It’ll be more compact than the current wing type designs out there. I’ll post a final pic once I get it all together but this is so you get the idea.

I’m trying to have it mount to the original two bolts and have the actuator tuck as closely as possible to those mounting points. The idea with the inlayed gear cog was to reduce the chances of debris causing malfunctions since I’ve heard that’s a thing.

Appreciate the response. I already purchased the SDHQ kit and trying to decide on the logic for the install. Been busy and have to look deeper at overall process for this and what I want to do.---thanks

I’m seeing a lot of back-and-forth here. Bottom line. What do the shoulders do on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, what is their purpose and if they are removed what would get damaged, i’m seeing this is something that would possibly void the warranty. Another question would be what about just removing them totally Off the vehicle and leaving it at that

If you take off the shutters and actuator it throws a CEL
