I have been racking my brain for much longer than I would care to admit, trying to remove the grille of my 2000 Toyota Tacoma (trying to troubleshoot a horn that continually blows a fuse). There are 4 clips on the top (easily ‘unhooked’) and apparently 2 clips on the bottom. I see where they are, but I cannot figure out how to unhook the bottom clips. There are tons of videos and ‘how to’s’ for 2001 and up Tacoma’s, and for 2000 Forerunners, but the 2000 Tacoma doesn’t match either (for those bottom clips). Can anybody in this forum explain how to do this (or point me to a how to video for removing the grille on this specific year and make)? Thanks in advance!

Stick a finger into the space in the grill side and push this little latch down. The clip will release from the grill.

You basically break them off because they are so old and brittle.

    Then you re-attach with zipties.

Thanks, and yes that works for the four top clips. It’s the bottom 2 clips I cannot figure out how to unclip. I can barely get to them from under the car, and only from the bottom (not the side like the top clips).

They're the same, but you have to squeeze a screwdriver in from the front.

You push down on the front of the clip while pulling out on the grille.

to undo the two bottom clips, push down on the clip latches (pictured above) with a screwdriver slid through the space between the bumper and the grille
    That's how I undo mine

Long flathead screwdriver then lever tab down a few mm's.

Yup, you were correct. You have to squeeze a screwdriver in from the front and press down. Still, easier said than done (at least for me). There is no hole or track for the screwdriver to go into (just the bottom of the grille) and you cannot see the tab from the front of the truck. So I had to lay on my back with a flashlight under the bumper and feed the screwdriver in from the front. One of them was so brittle the whole clip broke, but the other unsnapped just fine. Ultimately, the grille snapped back on with the remaining clips and doesn’t rattle, so I’m fine with it for now. BTW, found the short in the horn and repaired it by rerouting the wire and a little electrical tape. ;).

    Thanks for the help!
