I know it really wouldn't be a dash cam if it was mounted in the grille, but I like the idea of a dash cam. I just don't want to add more junk to my windshield and something mounted in the dash and possibly a rear camera as well would be ideal. Seem everything I am seeing is a windshield mounted device with optional wiring of a rear camera.

I have looked at a few motorcycle cameras, but not sure the wiring would be long enough to reach the rear.

    Any suggestions?

The biggest issue is the lens being exposed to rocks and other debris.
I have a camera system on my motorcycle and it seems the lens is made for this, so that would be your best bet. I have the Halo Cam for my bike and I think the extension cables were about 6 feet, no more than 8 feet.

A lot of dash cams can be mounted right behind the mirror so you don't see it

Only thing you're gonna see with a Grille mounted dashcam is the ass end of the car ahead of you.

I have a BlackVue DR590W-1CH that hides behind the rear view mirror. It has status lights and such, but you won't see them if you placed it where I did. It has a voice recording letting you know that its turned on and recording.

My new dashcam is the first one I've ever owned that records audio. Never knew I cussed so much when I drive.

Mine's fairly stealth I think. Mounted right by the GoPro mount

I have a friend who installed a PA speaker behind his grille and it held up fine until he took it off. That's a fairly simple and rugged device compared to a camera, though.

I would go inside the cab for a dash cam. They tend to be pricier and more fragile than a cheap Radioshack PA speaker.

Yea, I could have done that. I really don't have a valid reason for not doing it.:notsure:. Maybe deep inside I thought I may use that mount for a Go pro someday.

Lol yeah good point, I was about to mount mine to the windshield with the double sided tape then I found that clip and thought I might as well.

Also anyone that doesn't want to tap a wire for their dash cam check this harness out to plug it into the mirror. Make sure your connector is a 12 pin. The only disadvantage to this there won't be a power mode bc it's not a constant power. But as soon as you turn the truck on your camera comes on with this harness.

That is what I have been looking for and if I can come up with a way of extending that cable, it will probably be my best choice. The bike cams seems to be designed for exterior use.

Agree, but I don't want to draw attention at all. If I could find one that is just a small camera with the rest of the electronics stored under the dash, I would probably consider that

Probably not as much of a difference as you might think. The upper part of the grille from where I would mount is only 16" lower than where it would mount behind the mirror. Not to mention that I would get about 4" back with my new lift and tires.

Here is the camera mounted on my old bike. I removed it and mounted it on my new bike, but dont have a pic of that one.

That is what I am looking for. Something I can mount in the grille rather inconspicuously and when I get a new bumper that I can mount it in that.
