Hey folks, hope all is well.

After a recent scare of almost trading my taco in, I've been doing a lot of cosmetic modifications to my truck. One of the things I've wanted to do for a LONG time was change out the chrome grill bezel to one that is black.

Not sure the formatting of messages here so I'll post the link to the part below. My question(s) are

    1. Any chance someone has come across an "overlay" type piece that attaches via 3M tape or anything?

    2. If not, I've watched many vids on how to actually replace this out the correct way. I'm mechanically inclined and handy with tools, but hoping for some alternative than taking the grill off to do a replacement - so does anyone have any actual experience with alternatives to swapping out the piece?

You could take it to a wrap shop and have them wrap it in whatever color you want, don’t know how much that would be. If you really want to do it right take the grille off, it’s not that hard and not that time consuming for a great result.

Threre aren't any overlays that I am aware of. Some guys have plasti dipped theirs but I chose to replace mine. There's really no way to change that surround without removing the grill. Removing it though is very simple, remove two screws and two plastic pins, unplug the TSS sensor harness then give it a firm tug and it pops right out.

You're over thinking it. Pull the grille (2 screws, 2 tabs), push the clips, paint the trim, and replace.
    Give yourself 30 minutes.

Buy a trd grill and no more trim pieces. Pulling the bumper is pretty easy. Give yourself something to lay it front side down on. You'll want something soft so you don't scratch it, I use a moving blanket. Other than that it's just a bunch of screws.

So this is something I was also looking in to. Love the look of the TRD grills, but I had concerns with relocating the sensor. I've found a few that look simple with the tutorial videos, but I dont want to be one of those guys that try to do it, fail, and then have to say "but the guy on YouTube said..."

Any links to decent swap vids?

You don't need to remove the bumper to get to the grille, you can access the tabs from the top, that being said, it takes only a few minutes, really not a hard task. Sensor problems with the Pro grille are pretty rare, if you need to you can add a washer to tilt the sensor a bit, but I didn't need to anything. If you do swap to the Pro grille, the sensor just unscrews from the back (2 screws IIRC) and you just screw it into the new area on the Pro grille. I'd suggest buying an aftermarket plastic honeycomb protector, Toyota's are way over priced and it doesn't really effect the sensor or do anything.

If you're in CO I have a black surround you can have for free if you want to keep the OG grille

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'm just going to tough it out despite my lack of self confidence and replace it myself. All for the sake of cosmetics... HAH

    Wish me luck!

Super easy! Just take your time pulling all of the little tabs off. I put a folded towel where the garnish is to give an area for the trim piece to fall down to. If it’s fully flat against the ground sometimes they don’t free as easily
