I purchase a certified pre-owned 2021 TRD Sport and noticed a green LED flashing under the dash on the driver's side by the small fuse box, the dealer could not tell me what it is for and I do not want to start disconnecting cables without knowing it my self, I could leave it alone and place a piece of black electrical tape over the LED for it is bright during night driving. If anyone has come across this device before, your help in indentifying would be apreciated.

Looks like an aftermarket remote start or security system. Something to do with the immobilizer possibly?

I thought of that for it does have that little depress button but I pressed it and it did nothing, luckly it was not a drive eject seat button or smoke screen/rocket launcher for I pressed it in the garage.

Edit: One purple wire in my case. The orange wire was part of the harness used to extend the purple wire.

Appears to be a remote tracking or aftermarket alarm system of sorts. I had one on my truck and traced the wires back and yanked it. There was two purple or orange wires that had to be reconnected with solder or a crimp, ect. I used a wire nut crimp left over from my sound system install.

Thank you! I guess it is time to start tracing this and getting rid of it.

Double check your wires and maybe take a few pictures before you start cutting or removing though. That way you can always piece it back together if needed.

I dod not think so for when I went to the Toyota site to set up my account I saw the name of the previous owner, also Car Fax shows it was purchased at a delareship in CA. But you never know.

Did you use that QR code on it? Maybe there's something to be found out that way... I was guessing Avis only because it was the most obvious marking LoL

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

These trucks have incredibly sensitive electrical systems, folks have ended up needing a tow and a high dollar dealer repair because they made a spark changing the map lights.

Always remember: negative first - negative last, it helps keep the magic smoke where it belongs. :)

I'd leave it, if it is a tracker, and its nice to have light under the dash, as our trucks are really dark under the dash.

Can you have the dealer track down the previous owner and see if they are willing to talk to you? I have done that once and it was great, got some nice information from previous owner. I did that prior to purchasing.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Youre looking at the OE fuse location. Avis is Spanish for Notice, the word right above. The QR code is OE too.

Come down to the bottom of that box and see the small black device screwed to the bottom edge of the dash? That's the aftermarket gafinchkafinkle, which my money is on being part of an alarm.

The larger black box piece attaches up where I mounted the Redarc. That was actually the main reason for yanking mine.

So I am confused, where do you see a QR code? Also here are some more pictures as I rip this thing apart... I am going out on a linmb here and say those taps are not Toyota Factory and neither is the harness connected to the OBD plugf/cable. Just about thinking I am going back to the delarship and have them remove it, I am surprised that a Toyta certified vehicle has this on it since it could void my warranty if I was to take in say a year from now and they will think I installed it.
