While scoping out my next Tacoma, I test drove a GR86 6 speed manual today. That little car is a blast. I was not expecting that thing to scat. I'd like to have one day.

I owned a 2016 FRS. It was the most fun car I ever had. Got my SCCA track licence and raced just Group A with it for a few years. I miss it everyday.

I started work at Toyota when the FR-S was released. It never really impressed me coming from a performance background.

The torque dip is real and was awful.

The GR86 is a massive improvement. I actually look forward to driving them. The powerband and transmissions are perfect.

The big problem is with refinement, comes price. They are too expensive now and no one wants them.

Too expensive and carry a large market adjustment price markup. Like the new civic type-r. Just not reasonable to spend that much, let another sucker get taken for a ride.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Can confirm these cars are fun. Has a more usable powerband than my S2000. Although wait time for one for MSRP is long or you have to pay markup.

Miss mine too. Had 2013 FRS. Manual 6 speed. The fun factor was going to get me in trouble though it was great as a commuter for work averaging over 30mpg even with aggressive driving.
Never really noticed the torque dip everyone whines about but it was already tuned when I got it so I assume that had resolved it.
Still have parts left from it I haven't sold yet.

Great car, it's my DD and winter beater (2022 Trueno Blue Base), but already burning 1 quart of oil after 22K miles... Subaru at it's finest! oh and all the cheap plastic squeaking... still fun to drive and would not change anything!

Still haven't seen a GR-86 on a local lot, and it's been out for several years. They are all sold before they arrive.

Pretty clear the demand is far higher than Toyota's production. Heck, the dealer markup will tell you that. You also can't tell me there's no demand for that car. When I start seeing them on dealer lots for an extended time at MSRP or below, I might think the demand has shifted.

Now I used to see the original FRS on dealer lots, and those were sold under MSRP. Maybe one day with the GR-86...

Picked my 3 pedal 23 10th anniversary 86 up at the end of April (msrp no markup) and fn love it. Hands down the most fun 4 wheel vehicle I've owned in quite some time. Twisties/canyons this thing is at home. Looking forward to getting some track time in next season.20231013_130657.jpg

Anyone here interested in a muffler delete, HID kit, or homelink auto dim mirror? Leftovers I still have in the garage that I know will fit 2013-16 and likely fit '17-20 models for FRS/BRZ/86. PM for pics or more details.
