I just got mine installed. Just wondering where everyone has theirs.

What the Hell is a Ravelco?

 

I heard if you got the Ravelco you itch and sneeze like crazy.

 

What exactly are we looking at in the pic?

I'd never install an aftermarket anti-theft device like that, it still won't prevent the vehicle from being towed off and I can only seeing it cause hassles especially down the road and doubly so if it taps into or effects any of the factory wiring.

The number of aftermarket alarms I've removed and suddenly all the car's problems were fixed...

 

They are very reliable and trouble free. Never seen one used on a Tacoma but they are fairly common on higher end vehicles. Yes, anything can still be towed away but without the Ravelco plugged in the truck is completely unable to be started without rewiring everything. No amount of cloning keys, plugging into the vehicle OBD or other ports directly, etc will do anything.

 

I got it because of the weakness in security for vehicles with the push start button. Well if they'll need to tow it, I think they'll rather steal another tacoma with a push start, it is not that rare. I don't think criminals will invest in tow truck to steal a tacoma.

 

No first you steal a tow truck then you hit your mark.

You don't steal a car with a wrecker you own.

 

I didn't say they would use their own?? oh you mean when I said "invest" you thought I mean the criminals buying it? lol.. Invest can mean also their time. Now they have to plan and steal a tow truck first just to steal a tacoma? I don't think they'll invest that much time for a tacoma. They'll do it for exotics for sure.

 

Yeah i've only seen a few mention it here. I've seen a lot in Ram TRX forums.

 

Out of curiosity, what did you end up paying for the part/install? The price sheet I found seemed outdated. I submitted a request for info from the local dealer but haven't heard back.

 

My Ravelco is flaring up

 

New to this forum but Ravelcos are common in Jeep Wranglers. Especially older models where a screwdriver starts the car. Any car can get stolen with a tow truck. I don't see why that has anything to do with putting something in your vehicle that stops it from being started and driven off. Most people have locks on their doors; if someone can just break the window and get in does that mean you shouldn’t lock it?

Assuming a Ravelco car is stolen, the thieves now have to hack into all the wiring to undo the tangle of wires and false leads that are part of the installation in order to make the car function.
My Jeep install was about 600 bucks. No idea if it’s more expensive with a more modern car.

 

I’m getting a Ravelco sent to me bc they don’t have any installers in WA state. Anyone recommend a shop that can install it for me? They advise not to use a stereo shop and I’d love to find someone that has done this before. Thanks! (In Seattle Specifically)

 

Most of the Ravelco installers retired years ago.

That's 1970's technology. I'm not saying it won't work on modern trucks, but technology has come a long way in the last 50 years.

 

Also live in Seattle. Were you able to find a good place to install for you?

 

If you can't find an installer, just chain your truck up to a horse hitching post. It's about the same technology wise.
