I got a letter from the Geico claims department (I don't have Geico insurance). They mentioned that I was in an accident but I wasn't.

Is this a scam or did someone type in a wrong license plate or something?

Post a picture of the letter? Sounds like a scam to me but scammers don't send out many letters these days.

Ok the letter doesn't raise any red flags. No misspelled words or threatening language. Could be a mistake? I'd call Geico's national number and make an inquiry about it.

If you dont have Geico and haven't been in an accident, ignore it. They cant do anything.

One line near the end says a representative will contact you. IF that even happens, correct it then.

Me, I'd toss it and go on with life.

Where do you live? I agree you should call GEICO, also I would contact your insurance company and make sure there is no claim against you, I would also say check with local authorities to make sure that there is no accident report with the wrong license plate / driver listed, it could be identity theft??

I called. It was for a vehicle that I sold about 3 months ago. The DMV was previously notified so I'm not worried. Geico said there is nothing I need to do.

    Thanks for all the responses

About a year ago I got a letter from some sort of insurance company I hadn't heard of concerning a workman's comp claim. I called them and found out that it was a big mistake.

They thought I was a dock worker in California when I live way out east. They quickly resolved it. No one had an explanation.

So... This just happened to me, no letter just an email letting me know they had "successfully set up a claim."
    1. Called insurance company sat on hold for 30 minutes got switched twice and then had to give a statement.
    2. I asked lots of questions! This was involving a car I never have owned, a licenses plates I have in my possession and in a City I haven't lived in for 20 months.
How does this stuff get through? Who did they talk to that okayed the claim be started? It was not me! :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:
