Any ideas on how to take off this GoPro mount without destroying what it is sitting on??

No guarantees expressed or implied here, but do on a very warm day and use fishing line or dental floss to "saw" it off. Good luck!

Windshield shops could advise. Maybe strong hairdryer on the outside of the window?

Did you ask GoPro via email or phone?

Put a real dash cam up there. There are adapters for it that fit other types of mounts also.

My dashcam is held on by "Alien Tape" pretty well, which is cheap and replaceable and removable.

Yeah, but it’s a great place for mounting a dash camera- and power is right there from the mirror. Plus adapters are less than $5 on Amazon.

I have a NextBase GW522 (has a screen offset weight, heavier than Garmin button-things), and the AZ heat kills the adhesive tape for the mount. So I tried the Alien Tape I have and it works well enough that replacing the 1in x 1in pad a couple of times in the summer is not a burden.

I used 3M extreme tape to mount the rear camera on my shell glass door- it doesn’t melt off at all in full sunlight, especially when it’s 110+ here and the tinted glass heats up. It has been there for 2 years.

The windshield repair place told me don’t bother taking it off because the chance of breaking the windshield is high. So I’m stuck with it. literally!

GoPro tape is designed for skiing, flying, offroading ... basically being what some call "being stupid". :notsure:

My windshield had no tint until 2 weeks ago. For me "Alien Tape" seems better so I can take with me on vacation and remount on a rental car ... assuming newer cars all have the powered rear-view mirror.

But ... whatever works for the individual.

It’s a good place for a dash cam or radar detector.

Or put a flashy and bright red and blue LED light on it and clear traffic ahead of you when you are in a hurry!:bananadance:

What you need is really just a flat surface. Superglue some hard plastic in the center gap of the GoPro holder, then use 3M or Alien Tape or whatever you want on the "flat surface".

What about leaving the mount on the windshield and re-purpose it? I used the Grab Bag of GoPro parts to make a post where I hang my sister’s Handicap parking permit when I drive her around. Take a look at this link and see if you can think of a re-purpose for the mount.

    https://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Grab-B...925d1fa35b0881800cc784fd48b&gad_source=1&th=1

With all the wiring for the auto dimming mirror with compass, her Handicap Parking Permit will not hang on the mirror.

Thank you guys for the info. I don’t think I’m going to remove it. Don’t want to risk breaking anything.

    Gawd No!
The windshield is a sandwich, aka laminate, of two pieces of glass bonded together. Heating the Outside of the windshield will do nothing and could cause expansion of the outer layer that could cause damage.

    Maybe heating the mount itself.

If it was mine I would probably use a Q-tip to dab some WD-40 on the top edge of it every so often and let it seep in over time. Pull on it from the top edge every so often just a bit and add more. Bit by bit

If it is NOT coming off easy, just superglue some plastic to turn those side rails into a flat surface. Done and done.

It’s a black low-profile thing on a black laminate segment on the window. It’s so unobtrusive I forget I even have mine—and I’ve never mounted any of my GoPros to it because…I guess I don’t do anything cool with my truck. A better GoPro mount location would be somewhere on the OEM rack or maybe the underside for desert running or crawling pics. OP—get a GoPro style action cam and release your inner Michael Bay. Here’s a sweet pic of an abandoned surfboard shot from a GoPro strapped to a kite.
