Can I not have my phone connected via bluetooth and have my radio playing while google maps audio plays through? The only way I can hear the audio for google maps is if the head unit is set to bluetooth which means no radio :/ Is there a setting on the head unit to change that or am I just trying to live in the year 2030 here. I have a 2019 SR if that helps.

Think about it, how is it going to play the Bluetooth audio when the radio is set to FM/AM not Bluetooth.

Well if that is the case that's a bummer. So in order to hear google maps and have the radio playing, I have to turn off phone BT or disconnect my phone from the truck just so the audio plays through my phone. Which doing that I won't get the notifications/phone calls through my truck.

Could always buy a non base model stereo and get GPS in the head unit, or an aftermarket head unit.

Could just stream music through your phone and use google maps that way. You can adjust volume for instructions. Really only way you can do it and have both running at same time

This was my initial thought but figured I ask here to see if I was missing something before dishing out unnecessary $$$. I know a radio upgrade with speakers would vastly improve what the stock has to offer audio wise, but it doesn't bother me to the point where i HAD to have it. This google maps problem will likely speed up that process now lol. Thanks for the advice on this

This is easy to do, a setting on the Google Maps app. Open the Maps app and go to Settings (on iPhone under your Avatar). Go to the Navigation setting, and under Sound and Voice there are settings for:
    "Play voice over Bluetooth"
    "Play as Bluetooth phone call"

Be sure both are enabled (the second one is the key). Once you do this, when you have a navigation going on the phone, when the voice prompt comes up, the HU will show like a phone call is coming in and play the prompt over the car speakers. It will do this regardless of input (FM/Satellite/etc). Hope this helps!

There’s a setting that allows google maps to play it’s audio as a phone call. When google maps needs to tell you to turn, it’ll cut your radio (or whatever you’re listing to) and play the notification as a phone call before transitioning back to the radio. It is a smoother fade-in/fade-out when you’re streaming music from your phone, but it works.

edit: @baddy beat me to it haha. Great helpful first post!

Thanks for the reply. I'll either do that or just upgrade the headunit. I figured I'll check here before doing anything.

Thank you for this. I have a galaxy phone but I would imagine it would be the same. TW community never disappoints. Cheers

OK now since i had time to try while on lunch. It's still a no go, those options where already turned on. So i turned them off and back on again, went through ever setting possible. Still no dice. Idn wtf is going on but something that is so simple would seem just to work :frusty:

It would seem to me that for the radio + bluetooth nav case, you'd want only the second option turned on.

Also verify that when you receive a call it rings on the head unit.
