I'm looking to replace the oem tin can one I hit against a tree. I see a lot of cheap rear bumpers but are any of these good enough to use with actual shackles? Or are they fake garbage?

The words “good and cheap” are not something you’re going to find in a steel bumper.

This, if you have a welder or know someone who will weld for a case of bear Coastal's stuff is awesome. I run their full skids, took me about 2 days of welding then rattle canned them and they are great. I am going with their high clearance rear bumper once I can afford hammer hangers. Their shackles are often a couple pieces of thick steal that you weld together but being a weld it yourself kit you can always modify the kit to fit your needs.

If DIY kits are out of the question then cheap does not equal quality when it comes to bumpers of any sorts. If they are cheap they will either be super cheap thin metal that offers nothing more than aesthetics or the weld quality will be shit. (or they are bolt together).

Are you looking for a "stock looking" rear bumper or something completely different. I can assure you that all of the aftermarket "stock looking" bumpers are just as flimsy - or worse - than the factory bumper.

Having completed this bumper recently I have to say this is not a case of beer job. I have almost 16 hours of welding and finishing on it. If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased it already welded.

Interesting thoughts. I'm not doing much offroad in Wisconsin. It's rather flat with limited challenging offroad . Mostly I want to replace the oem with the dent and add usable shackle points for when I get stuck or pulling out family members. I was looking at some of the welds on the cheap stuff and it makes me feel questionable that it won't become a projectile.

I would not use shackles on any bumper if a hitch mount is available. If you don't have a hitch, can’t answer your question, but thus bumper has been on my radar and their xmas discount looks quite inviting.

I was thinking the same thing, I hate when people don't value my time and expenses when welding something for them. A "case of beer" job is me doing something simple and maybe half an hour of work. Anything more, you're getting charged.

It's the basic triangle of any sort of project:

    • Cost - "I want it cheap"
    • Quality - "I want it solid/reliable/able to do everything it needs"
    • Time - "I want it ASAP"

You can only ever have two of the three, and it will be at the expense of the third item.

If you're in Wisconsin check out 4xinnovations, they're in southwestern WI. It is a well-made bumper, but see my post in the 4xinnovation section, installation wasn't the smoothest. It has a 3000 lb rated receiver, but it looks like it could handle more than the stock bumper.
Being that I live in Minnesota I had mine galvanized through AZZ before I rattle can spray'd it.
I thought of purchasing the Coastal, but being an ex-welder, how many pieces there are in the kit, and knowing how much time it would consume I just thought about it.

Your browser must be blocking it. It comes right up for me. Head to oedro.com and look up items for 2nd gen Tacomas. This is home page -

It doesn't work for me either in both Chrome and Edge, though I was able to find it by searching for it on Google.

Converting it to a tinyurl seems to have worked though. I think it's because any link on tacomaworld is a redirect out and that messes with some links.

edit: weird. For me, it works but once I paste it into an incognito browser, it doesn't work. Computers are wild man.

@EatSleepTacos Interesting ... your tinyurl link does not work for me; I'm using Firefox on my laptop. All the other links on this thread open fine on both my iPad's Safari and laptop's Firefox.

Doh, turns out I was just impatient. It was much slower than normal (~10 seconds) but it eventually loaded.

And now my tinyurl takes me somewhere else, so that's getting deleted.
