    Need tire advice please.

1996 2wd ext cab Milwaukee, WI

Door sticker says factory original was 215/70/14

Currently has 17 inch rims with lower profile Michelin Energysavers. Rides like garbage on our pothole infested streets. Have Blizzaks on separate rims for the little winter driving I do. Mainly concerned about ride quality. Prefer softer ride, not interested in 1G cornering. 14s are proving very hard to find nowadays.

If anyone has advice or a link on best price, I’d appreciate it. Cheers

Maybe post in the 5 lug section. Most of the guys here are 4x4s, and probably unaware there is even such a thing as a 14” rim, lol...

That said, maybe consider a 15” rim, there are a lot more tire choices for that size rim.

    A 15" w/ a 60 series tire will feel fine and look better than either a 14 or a 17.

I use Discount or if i feel like giving the local guys a shot they usually come close.

14" inch rims? Maybe go with white sidewalls...

Those are perfectly fine on a 5 lug.

14's have never had a great selection unless you want trailer tires.

You could go 235/60/15 and only be 1% bigger in diameter.

Just moving up to 75s will improve ride. The more sidewall you have, the more it cushions stuff.

He actually gets a better selection of wheels but tire selection is terrible.

To reiterate what the others have stated, there really isn't much out there for 14"s. My brother had a 2wd Ranger with the same size tires. He asked me for tire advice and the first thing I told him was, "well... find some 15 rims on craigslist and go from there." He didn't listen and got the Hankook Optimos, the cheapest tires possible. After two years they started dry rotting and one blew up on him. You get what you pay for. $58 tires on a pickup truck makes me nervous. Bump up to 15s and get some Michelin LTXs.

Thanks for the advice. I swapped the 225/70/15s from my Ranger and even with Uniroyal Laredo’s it improved the ride substantially. For the potholes, I guess the bigger the sidewall the better. I’m thinking I’ll leave the tire pressures a bit lower here in the city and raise them back to normal when I need to take trips outa town. My daughter already complained that the Ranger now rides like crap. Cheers
