As stated, about to purchase a glock 19, for concealed/home defense. Any objections/suggestions etc?

Excellent choice for a first handgun.
They're easy to use, easy to field strip & clean, low maintenance, the aftermarket support is huge (the list of accessories is practically endless) and it's large enough to shoot comfortably all day but small enough to conceal if you've got a good IWB holster.
And, perhaps most importantly, they're Reliable, Reliable, Reliable with a capital R.

Personally, I would go with a Sig Sauer. Idk what your price range is, but I own a Sig and I have shot both extensively. I like the angle of the Sig Sauers much more, Glocks have a really forward angle grip that feels awkward to me. Next point is the materials, Sigs are predominantly metal, while Glocks are heavily plastic. I personally enjoy the extra weight and more solid feeling of Sigs. The Glock 19 is a 9mm, and I run .40 S&W because it shoots with a larger amount of force than a 9mm, but it has a lower risk of overpenetration, especially depending on which ammo you use. .40 also has a larger bullet diameter, so hollow points make bigger holes. Another thing the Sig has that I enjoy is the hammer fired system as opposed to the striker fired system of the Glock. Sig Sauer is a more expensive brand than Glock, so if you are looking for a cheap, reliable, high end gun, Glock is it. I would consider Glock as the upper medium end to bottom of high end pistols. Higher end platforms such as Heckler and Koch, Sig Sauer, and FN Herstal are out there, but pricey.

Sig Sauer P229 .40 S&W Running Polycase ARX Inceptor ammunition would be my personal choice for CC Personal Defense. If you want to get funky and spice it up, Tru Glo TFX Pro sights and a Surefire XC1 (conceal carry) or X300 Ultra-B (Open carry or home defense).

Back to the personal choice, it is exactly that. I would shoot each gun that you are looking at (either if your buddies have one or sometimes a range will let you try them) before making your decision. Buy what you feel comfortable with shooting, and what you feel like will perform to your specifications. That is just my 2 cents

    I like glocks and I like .40
But I don't know how well a g22 would conceal

Glock 23.jpg P229.jpg Here you can see the angle of the grip. The Sig is more straight upright and the Glock is much more angled.

    (Glock 23 Gen 4 .40 S&W and Sig Sauer P229)

G19 was the first handgun I ever bought. To this day it was my favorite too. Except for maybe the FN 5.7 but those are really expensive.

I would go to a range where you can rent a few different handguns and see what you like best.

9x19 is a great round. Especially with a modern hollowpoint. Decide what your purpose for the handgun is going to be and do some of your own research.

Glock is a solid choice. Lots of aftermarket support too. It is my current choice to carry and typically with me daily. 1200 or so rounds down the pipe on a gen 4 no issues.

Another great pistol is an s&w m&p. 2000+ rounds and is likely one of the most dependable combat style pistols I have ever owned. I had on failure to extract issue that was revolved by a new extractor at like 200 rounds. Since never had an issue.

I own both. The m&p full size 9 with mags disconnect.
    And a glock gen 4 9mm.
Both with tritium sights. Either one is awsome.

If you consider s&w, and are looking strictly ccw, look at the s&w shield as well. Perfect carry.

If you're stuck between 9 and 40, go 9. With +p or even +p+ which both smith and glock will handle fine. Ballistically they are too similar to not want the extra rounds the 9 will give you. Imho.

Stay away from sig imo. 10 years ago and later they were great. Not so much anymore. Qa went down hill in 2007 or so.
I did have a p220 that was a German proofed barrel. Older and very very good. I can't say the same for my purchased and sold 227 and 516 patrol. Both were just not at the same standard.

Go to your local range, and shoot every gun in the case, it is usually just one flat fee. See what feels best to you. What feels and works well for one person may not have the same results to another. I'd stick with 9mm as it is inexpensive to shoot, so you can practice more. Practice. Practice. Practice. The weapon is only as effective as the operator. For home defense use a hollow point round to minimize penetration through walls to reduce any unintended consequences, and to maximize effectiveness on an intruder.

Personally I think the Glock 19 is a bit large for concealed carry. I prefer a single stack and a bit more compact like the Walther CCP 9mm.

A little of this and a little of that.
The Glock 19 is an excellent handgun. It's about as exciting as a Toyota Corolla, and every bit as reliable.

I bought one earlier this year and conceal carry it regularly. I don't doubt that there are better guns to cc, but it's doable with the G-19.

Like others have suggested, shoot one before you buy, if possible, in order to determine if the gun suits you.

    Good luck.

    Shoot it at the range.
Get a good holster, IWB or OWB.
    Good belt
    Good ammo
    Mag carrier IWB, OWB, pocket
Pistol light or carry light - depends what your environment are.
And most important, get the training.

What I use through years of collecting gear
    Incog eclipse shadow IWB holster
    Wilderness instructors belt
Federal ammunition 9mm 147 grain HST JHP (9mm ammo technology had improved in the last few years)
Incog mag carrier IWB or Magcaddy inside pocket
    Inforce APL
Is my EDC on the G19, same if I carry g17 OWB or G30S IWB but with federal ammunition 230 grain HST JHP.

The Glock is always a crowd favorite, I almost bought one myself.

I would also suggest a Springfield XDS .45 fits in your pocket but takes practice with the short barrel.

I have both my G19 and my G23c on my permit. Love them both. I also have a M&P Shield . 40 for when I need something ultra small for gym shorts or tighter clothes.

Would highly recommend any Glock, but stick to compact for CCW. Full size are a bit long for those new to carrying. Different frames print differently depending on where you wear them.

This chart might help decide on what you want with regards to caliber/frame size.

I beat the hell out of a glock on 4 different deployments to middle east. I trust it with my life hands down.

There is a reason it is the most popular gun out there....

So, by your reasoning the F150 is the best truck out there? All striker fired pistols suck IMO.

Before I bought my first, I went to a range that had a rental deal so you could try out different guns before you bought one... I tried out a couple Glocks, a couple Springfield XDs, and another I don't remember. I ended up with the Springfield XD9 sub-compact (I should have gotten the .40 but that's another conversation). I feel like the Glock was just not comfortable in my hand. The XD felt more ergonomic and just better overall.
