Yesterday I was driving up a hill and it suddenly cut out and lost power. Wouldn't sputter or anything no matter how much I cranked it. After I got it towed home I tried cranking it again and it didn't sputter at all.

I then loosened the fuel line and cranked to see if its pumping fuel and the engine started sputtering. Fuel was leaking out. After I closed the line it would run for a split second then go out. Repeated this multiple times of cracking open the line and closing and managed to get it running a few seconds.

This is the 2nd brand new fuel pump ive bought this year and am confused if its simply poor quality china crap or if something else is wrong and breaking my pumps. Looking on reviews of any fuel pump on Amazon and they all have at least 1 review of someone who also had the fuel pump break quickly. Not sure what to get anymore or who to trust.

Is there anything that can cause the pumps to be breaking prematurely? Or it simply a china quality issue? Should I go with a OEM pump from AutoZone or is there a inline/out of the tank solution as its difficult to remove the tank each time. Any pumps you reccomend?

Interesting Just Denso fuel pumps sold to Toyota ??

The other ones are just fine sounds like a scam since it does not state the problem for the reason a class action suite was needed .

On the other hand, none of those are on first gen Tacomas. Totally different pump.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? A clogged up fuel filter will eat pumps quick. When you take it off...try and blow through it

This sounds like Chinese crap. Ebay and Amazon are full of counterfeit nowadays too.
Order from Rock or a repudable Toyota parts house that discounts.

Yep. I was just on the phone with a buddy this morning who was doing plugs on his Lexus and mentioned he was changing all the coils too...I asked why, and he said "because they were cheap".

He found "Denso" on ebay for $60 for a set of 6. Rock Auto has 'em for $240. That's a good indicator that the ones he's getting on eBay are counterfeit. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

Amazon has a bunch of fake stuff too. I only get stuff from the dealer. Sad state of affairs that we live in.

I'm not trying to pile on here, but am genuinely curious about the brand of pump you got and how much it cost you. Care to share that info?

I've also ordered a counterfeit OEM radiator cap from Amazon that didn't work. Amazon doesn't care, as long as they get their commission.

Just as was spoke of before on the OEM thread....Some Chinease parts are made in one place and sold under different names. You could be paying over a hundred for a name thats on E Bay for twenty bucks. I have cheap E Bay pumps in both my vehicles and they have gone many miles/years now. Sometimes I'll take my chances. One thing I may not skimp on is sensors depending on the price. On a side note I got offroad LED small light for twelve bucks, and some big name company had them for Four hundred

When it comes to parts I'm willing to gamble with...a fuel pump aint one of 'em. Sensors/etc will typically result in a CEL and maybe a decrease in performance until it's fixed, with a few exceptions. Fuel pump will leave you dead in the water. I mostly use OEM when it's available, and I've been in the aftermarket parts industry for 20 years. Brakes I'll go aftermarket, but only because I know the supply chain and the factories who make the stuff I use.
