Just the other day I went in reverse and I heard squeaky noises. I first thought it was my brakes, but I let me foot off the break and I could still here the noise. When I go forward I don't hear the noise at all.

Can someone tell me what the noise could be and what kind of money I will be looking at to fix it?

My guess would be a universal joint. I haven't had one go out on my tacoma but serveral in my other vehicles that make the sound you are descibing. Unsure on cost in tacoma but i would'nt think it would be too bad. Its not a bad job to do.

    Stickers. Lots of stickers.
Check your u-joints. My truck did the same thing. It could also be your bushings for your shocks.

When I replaced the u joint, the noise went away. And if you replace them yourself, you're looking at a good 4-5 hour job if you use primitive methods like I did (aka a hammer/sockets/ grease). And a lot of cussing

A shop can cost a little to replace them. Like a 100 bucks apiece.

Fiance's jeep did that for a while, turns out it was the brakes. I didn't think it was the brakes cause it only happened in reverse, not in drive. Changed out the brake pads and cleaned the hardware and no more noise. Check your pads

U-joints is most common culprit. Get under your truck and check them for movement. If no movement, greeze em up real good. Then take a listen if ya hear your squeek any more.

Mine did the same and started squeaking on initial acceleration up to 20 mph. It was diagnosed as the u-joints. I am officially fed up with the problems i have had with my taco. I just use it for general transportation and in my groundskeeping work. Never been off road, just a couple miles of dirt road to a job once a month. At 57,000 miles I have had more problems with this vehicle than any other vehicle I have ever owned.
