Has anyone gone from a 265 75r16 (largest tire with stock setup) back down to the 265 70r16? I am currently at the larger side of that equation and I’m wondering if there are any power or mpg gains associated with the switch to the somewhat smaller size. Thanks everyone!

Did you have 265/70 to begin w and then changed them to 265/75? And now you want to go back to OEM size

A lot depends on the weight difference and tread pattern between what you put on to replace the stock tires . If you went to E series tires the difference in both mpg and loss of power is noticeable for both . For the OR , Toyota used a very light tire and I would also figure they chose light tires for the rest of the models . Lots of threads on this with searching on tires etc.

I actually got the truck with the tiny 245s and opted to go with the biggest option. Now I’m looking at dialing it back a bit. I’m also going from a Yokohama G015 A/T to something more highway focused.

Did you not like the 265/75? I am asking because I was debating on going at 265/75 because I have a lift and possibly not in the market to change my wheels yet

I like them, but I feel like the transmission may hunt a bit less with the smaller size. I did already have the TSB done. They look great proportionately.

So I went from 265/70 to 265/75...I had essentially no change in mpg, driving experience etc. Plus, my speedometer is now 100% accurate, so must have been off from the factory a little. To me, the biggest change, even if minor, is the difference in tire size. So if you are switching in the hopes of improving mpg...I don't think the maybe .25/.5 mpg improvement is worth it

To note, I kept the same tire just went to a bigger size.

My summer tires are 265-75-16 and my winter tires are 265-70-16 and notice no difference.

    Yes. For now.

I have been reading about how the PCM works with the TPMS and it can only read 4 sensors. I would need to buy an OBDII TPMS tool that would copy and tell the PCM it's the same 4 sensors, with clone sensors on the second set of wheels.

I went from Goodrichs to Ultra-terrains to the smaller size and got about 1 mpg better, and I think they are better in the snow and rain. My $0.2.

If you go back to the smaller and lighter stock size you will experience improved acceleration, braking, cornering, High speed stability, fuel economy, smoother ride and your brakes will last longer. Only downside is it might not look as Cool. The difference is noticeable, unless you choose not to ignore it.

I didnt notice any power loss when I upsized. I will not go back. As soon as somebody makes a 255/85/16 A/T, 3 peak snow designated tire, I'm going up again. I'm guessing I will feel a slight power loss, even though I'm going to a skinnier tire.
