Updating you if you care lol.

I had a buddy of mine who works at a fab shop fashion me up some custom brackets so I could avoid using the GFC mounts. Turned out well, lines up perfectly and mounts well. I mistakenly reversed and inverted the mounts, so the post is attached to the awning while the receiving end is mounted to the GFC lol...I can't imagine that will cause any issues but I'll be keeping an eye on it for a while to make sure it's all good.

I might change up the hardward on the mount attached to the GFC, I had opted for the 1/4-20 T nuts from GZila, not realizing they stuck out past the channel, and weren't flush. Not a huge deal and can't imagine it would cause any issues either since that mount is a solid piece. But I'll be keeping an eye on that as well. lack of flush mount means that it's never TRULY tight against the GFC rails since it's snugged up against the t slots. but as long as the screws won't back out, it should be fine.

Some people used passthrough and cut through the bed pieces in the corner. Been researching this as that is the one main downside of the GFC. Wish they had some open space similar to AT overland but I guess thats what keeps the weight down as well.

Any threads with some good examples of how they did it?

Alright I think I might pull the trigger this nov for a GFC before the price increase. Anyone in the PNW have issues with leaking? That is my biggest concern.

GFC has done a pretty good job with water intrusion issues. I would say outside of the actual GFC, the remaining issues would be sealing the bed caps pretty good. Head over to the GFC forum if you haven’t already. They have a really active forum/members who have a lot of advice for everything GFC related.

Okay as long as the GFC is good, especially the top wedge portion, I should be okay. I've sealed the bed and front corners pretty well for my homemade GFC but the wedge portion is my biggest issue as once I fix one leak another appears haha.

i've had mine opened in some pretty heavy rains, and it's sat outside closed in some pretty heavy storms over the last couple years. Never an issue in the top wedge portion. Just make sure you get all the material inside when you're closing it, sometimes the air inside pushes it out as you bring it down.

I never really sealed my bed so there's still some minor water intrusion in the bed, but a bed mat makes it more or less negligible.

Been lurking this thread for a while and been talking about getting a GFC for a few years now. Well the day has finally come. Just placed my order today.

My wife and I have a 2 week road trip planned for August where we'll be stopping in Belgrade for the install at GFC HQ.

Road trip from AZ to MT consists of
2 nights in Jackson for Grand Teton NP
    3 nights in Yellowstone
    Stop at GFC for install
1 night in St Mary and 1 night in Kalispell for Glacier NP
5 nights in the Bitterroot valley to look at different towns and properties for a potential move from AZ

Camper details. While I think it would look cool on my super white I just could not bring myself to go dare ya red although tempting thought I may get tired of it. So went pretty standard black panels tangerine tent.

Look forward to catching different mod ideas as the build out progresses

Since buying the GFC I have longed for an idea to help close the wedge. with Lumbering Bear (the Ursus and the Ripley) making a sweet pull-down for the V2 - and having some left over anchors from my seat delete, I came up with a plan.
Step 1 - Assemble parts which includes these anchors I purchased off Amazon and assorted hardware I had laying around

    IMG_0586.jpg

Step 2 - Drill into GFC handle / slide - I used a step drill bit and made mine about 15 inches in from the sides, for no real reason - wider might be better yet but this so far seems fine

    IMG_0587.jpg

Step 3 - This was for sure a bit more tricky as there is like zero room for my hand (at least) so I used painters tape to firstly hold the washer to the anchor whilst I got the bolt through, and then used it on the back side of the spanner to hold the nut in place, then blindly held out for a miracle to get the nut started (didnt take too long) - my only worry is whether the thread lock part of the nut has actually caught - time will tell pretty quickly thou I guess

    IMG_0589.jpg

Step 4 - I started using some gutted 550 cord - including some wiring heat shrink to protect around the hardware but wasn't too happy with that, the 550 has some stretch to it - so I pivoted and decided on a couple ready made Mammut Dyneema 120cm slings, thin enough to pass through the anchors, thick enough they are likely not to break too soon and long enough to give some options
