Been driving my 2009 DC OR since new. Now I'm looking at a new Tacoma and I'm thinking of going with a basic Double Cab 6A SR5 and upgrading suspension and other upgrades as opposed to going with the Off Road.

The savings are a couple of grand, but I'm thinking that couple of grand can go towards upgrades I want, as opposed to what I'll be replacing with a brand new OR.

    Thoughts?

You might lose a few quality of life features. LED headlights, locking doors, electric seat etc. I'm not sure the differences between the two trims, just throwing out some things that you may gain going with the OR. If you don't care much about little features like that or an e-locker (main thing for the offroad trim), then get the SR5 if you plan on doing new suspension anyways.

    My thoughts.

Off-Roads have LED headlights..?! I thought that was only on PRO/Sport trims

Savings is more than a couple grand lol or the dealership is raping on the sr5 and huge deal on the OR. I got the Trail because it has all the creature comforts I care about minus led headlights and was about 8k cheaper than the ORs they had (and only none were army green). Paid about 10k less than than what the sticker was on the OR by the time I was done. But I'm guessing the OR has choices in options packages and these weren't lacking on those lists.

I don't know exactly what each trim currently has or doesn't have, just throwing out examples of things you may (or may not) lose going with a lower trim

    Thought I got jipped! Thanks!

I do know my Off-Road has LED running/day lights though. But from the inside of my truck, I can't tell. So I guess it doesn't matter. @TacoRocco I guess save some shillings and get the SR5. Great truck!

I bought a 2020 SR5 (an upgrade from my previous SR) and am doing my own mods. I will do the suspension at some point.

Now that all trims have apple car play I could care less if a truck has built in navigation.

If you don't want a turn key rear locker, the SR5 makes way more sense if you want to upgrade the suspension right away.

Do you want an automatic or manual transmission?

No manual transmission available on the SR-5.

That's the shitty part of how Toyota options their trucks. I want a manual access cab which means I can only get a sport even though I'd rather have the offroad and its locker than the scoop. The little baby 5' bed just won't cut it this time around.

TRD access cab with a manual would be the best. If I could order a Tacoma from Toyota I'd spec a AC TRD OR 4x4 6-speed manual w/utility pkg, and LED headlights.

I don't want to spend 40,000 on a new truck just to spend more time and money to remove the rear seats I didnt want to start with.

It's not just a Toyota thing I don't want rear seats in a extended cab midsize pick up.

The Offroad has a larger rear end, an electronic brake booster, crawl control, and a rear locker. Well worth the price if you plan on doing any offroading.

I thought it was pretty much agreed to most that the off-road was the best “bang for your buck”

but, sometimes I wonder if I should have bought a sr5...

Toyota Nav is primitive at best, anyway.

Navigation aside, the OR still gets my vote. If for nothing else, the locker alone is almost worth the cost of admission.
Yea, it quirky, but it's OEM and warrantied. Unless, of course, you used it off road...
