Hey guys so I recently purchased Go Rhinos new sport bar accessory through realtruck.com. I got a very good deal on it and I was stoked as to how it would look on my '16 off road. Received it in the mail and assembled it with little effort. I'm kinda in a delema as I feel uncomfortable drilling into the plastic on my bed rails. I've never delved into any similar projects so I don't wanna go and mess up my new truck. Figured I'd go with my gut feeling of not doing it myself and took it to a reputable custom shop in my area. They seemed apprehensive about the whole thing so I'm gonna guess they don't deal with custom mounting on trucks very often. I called customer service for both real truck.com and go rhino and they both gave me the ok to drill through the plastic on the metal on the bed rails. I'm probably being paranoid about the whole thing but I figured I get some of your thoughts. Have any of you installed this yourselves? Much appreciated!

Where are you located? You should be able to find a local truck accessories/Go-Rhino dealer in your area that could install it.

    Welcome to TW.
90% of the people on this site are DIYers so strap on a pair, grab your drill and join the club. Hopefully the bar came with some sort of instructions or at the very least they can be found online? Measure twice, drill once.

Looks to be a purely fashion accessory? Like the bars go in to an open c channel on the bed rail, no frame ties? Just for lights?

    Question one:
Is it EVER coming off again? If no then drill, mount and forget about the install ever again.

If it might ever be removed then I would have someone fab brackets to tie it into your bed rail mounts. I would then get the 2nd gen front rail and have a tie in point there as well. That way if it needed to be removed at most you would have some rubbing on the top of the factory plastic covers.

Where in PA are you... Philly here.. The rack looks a little heavy for the bed rails... no instructions came with?

He's saying if you plan on removing it ever then have some brackets made up that will tie into the factory rails (so you won't drill into the bed). The second gen front rail would be an additional attachment point (3rd gens dont have a rail in the front of the bed)

I would never drill holes in my bed to mount that thing. The tacomas have the channel system along the inside of the bed for a reason, so you can mount whatever you want without drilling. Make some brackets to bolt it to the channels on the inside of the bed or get rid of it.

Just moved to the Lehigh Valley from Philly. The directions say to drill into bed but you can tell they are universal directions. Vague as shit.

In an effort to help you understand...

Look at the instructions for that thing here:

    http://www.gorhino.com/images/ePIM/original/911000-&-915000-en.pdf

Pay close attention to pages 8 and 9.
They have you drill into the truck. Permanent holes in your rail to mount that thing.
I suppose you could always buy new plastic caps for your rails if you ever change your mind, but that's probably pretty expensive.

The proposed solution is to make some brackets that allow you to mount it to your cargo rails much like this:
Notice how there is no hardware going through the top plastic rail. That thing mounts to the cargo rail.
You could likely do the same with some angle iron from the local metal store.

I'd agree with these guys... No holes.
OR... Research how much replacement plastic caps are and just know that you will probably need new ones if you ever get rid of that bar.
OR..... Live with the holes. Some people may not care.

Make some simple angle brackets like these, and mount your sport bar thing to them.

Besides supporting a light bar, what else does this sport bar serve?
