Does the phone need to be plugged into the USB to make Google maps show up on the screen? When I start the truck my phone vibrates and it says its connected with bluetooth. And my contact list shows up, but I can't get the map to work.

If it says it's connected through Bluetooth then it isn't connected via Android Auto. You can try selecting Android Auto as the source and then you just click the map button on the dash and it should work. A few things I had to try were having a good quality USB cord (first one I tried to use didn't work, second and newer one was much better) and I had to plug it into the USB right below the instrument panel and not the one in the center console.

Ok. So it has to be plugged into the USB to get the maps to work from the phone? Or if I go into Android Auto can I get it to work without the plug?

It has to be plugged in to use the maps unfortunately. I wish so much that it could connect maps through Bluetooth.

Yes, you either need to use Carplay or Android Auto.. both of which needs to have a physical connection to the head unit via the front USB port (Only port that has data).

While BOTH iPhone and Android had the ability to do Wireless connection at the time (2020 model year) Toyota decided NOT to support that feature.

Ok. Thanks. That saves me from having to read the book. I am trying to keep it shrink wrapped so if I sell the truck the books will look nice.

This also assumes you have a 2020+ Tacoma, 2019 and older did not have this ability.

If you login to the Toyota app. It has a pdf version of the owners manual there so no need to open your physical copy.

apparently, there is a mod/USB plug-in that can have your phone connect via Bluetooth and carplay, no cord. I run android, so it doesn't apply for me. If you have Apple, you may want to look into it.

https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/...ring-android-auto-wireless-to-almost-any-car/ If that works then you could keep the phone in the center console pulled into the USB there. That is what I want.

They make wireless adapters for Apple Carplay. I'm running CPLAY2Air in my 2020.

A few of us purchased the AAWireless device from the IndieGoGo campaign. I don't believe anyone has received theirs yet, but the first batch of orders are finally starting to ship. There was some info in this thread, but it hasn't been updated in a few months.
