Well I just pulled the trigger on a set of tires. I wanted something that I can use year-round for a couple years (while the tread’s fresh) then use only in summer, and have a set of dedicated winters on my old 16” wheels.

I generally don’t like AT tires with the snowflake for winter. I have always preferred the Michelin MS2 / Defender, or a proper winter tire. For some reason I like the look of this tire though and decided to give it a try.

Lots of zigzag sipes. Nice open voids for snow/slush, and just kind of intuitively looks like it will perform well for an all terrain tire. It’s very heavy, at 54lbs for 265/75r16 but it looks pretty bulletproof. If it’s overkill on the Toyota I’ll swap them to the f350 some day.

I’ll post some reviews when I get them on this winter. In the meantime they’ll be stacked in the garage.

i encourage anyone with experience to share it. They look to me like they’ll be a great tire and should develop a content fan base.

Interested to hear how these work for you. I like them but I'm curious how the weight will affect driving and mileage

They look like Goodyear should be suing for infringement on the Duratrac.

    Doesn’t surprise me.

Geolandar MT also copied the Toyo MT with a similar design.

Interesting. Been looking at snowflake rated ATs, might be interested to try a set.

Hopefully they come out with more sizes soon. Would like to see a 285/75R17

I’ve loved the Michelin MS2 / Defender for forever. Best tire ever. Dry, rain, wet boulders, snow, whatever - great traction. 95% of people should run that tire instead of all terrains…. Just wanted a set of something different, and I got these G017’s for a ridiculously good price.

Well they’re on. They look great.

just took them for a short drive up the road and back. Surprisingly smooth. If anything they absorb minor breaks and cracks in pavement better than the old 10 ply Michelins did. They’re louder, obviously, but not a real loud hum like you get from mud tires. There’s a softer higher pitch hum and it’s nothing that would bother me or most people.

    so far so good.

And I love their 19/32 tread depth!

Couple hundred km’s on them now. All highway.

they’re louder than my old Cooper S/T Maxx were. Track fine though and balanced pretty well. No more updates until we get some greasy weather.

The shop almost ordered these by accident. I went with X-AT's.
The XD's are supposed to be even better in snow. Was reading they're used often used in work trucks and vans construction/utility, etc.

They’re commercial grade for sure, but they’re really new. I don’t think it’s safe to say who’s often using them. My local tire shop was the only one to offer it on their website and the guys had never even seen them in person. (I got them online and saved over 500 bucks from what was offered locally)

they’re certainly not rougher over potholes and stuff. I think they’re smoother over rough terrain than my 10ply Michelins, but they’re louder for sure, and you get some feedback turning at highway speed because there’s less continuity between the shoulder lugs. Just light side to side movement on the steering wheel.

I'm planning on having a set of these studded for winters. After seeing them in person they are similiar to a duratrac but a muuuuch softer tread compound. I have a feeling they will be a string contender in winter performance

I used studded Duratracs on an FJ years ago when they first came out and was ok with them for winter but still thought unstudded blizzaks were better. I have driven on unstudded ones and thought they were shit in winter and not even good on wet roads. Sidewalls felt soft and it just feels like a way overrated mediocre tire.
These Yokohamas have a super solid feel to them and the rubbers really supple. I think they’re going to be great this winter, and on rough secondary roads or gravel they feel awesome. Nice and smooth. Track well. Responsive.
