I need tires but I'm retired now and don't go anywhere - I've got Michelin's now from when I was working but my tire guy says there's no reason to spend the extra $$$ now and suggests Generals. Any opinions and or links appreciated. Thanks.

I have been running the General Grabber ATXs for about 30K miles now and they’re fantastic. I’ve literally driven all over the country with them. Wet, rain, snow, mud, sand. General definitely makes a good tire.

I don’t have any experience with Michelins but I’ve never heard anything bad about them.

90k on my last Michelins and replaced due to age with 8/32nds still on them. I'm sold on them for 99% highway miles.

Michelin spends about twice as much in R&D as everyone else, and it shows. For on-road use they are worth it.

Thanks - I don't understand ? "replaced due to age with 8/32nds still on them. I'm sold on them for 99% highway miles" How do you sell when they are so old you do want to use them ? Dry rot ? Thanks for any reply.

They were 6 years old and were showing fine cracks on the sidewall and tread. I'm sold on them meaning they are the best tires for me, not that I sold the tires.

Thanks 4 the reply. I'm buying new tires for my wife's car because of dry rot too - no tread wear at all - I'm thinking of buying tire covers for uv protection.

Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus from Costco have been great for me, mostly all pavement.

    I am a 5 lug and upsized from 215 to 235.

I'd go Mich Defenders if I had 4wd and snow. Also available via Costco

I get it. My truck parks outside in full sun so I try to keep the tires dressed with protectant.

General is owned by Continental. As stated above, Grabber ATX tires are great.

I have run Michelin Cross Climates on a CX5 and they were fantastic. But a totally different tire.

Many tire manufacturers and models are great. What’s the use case? What kind of tire?

My Son-in-Law buys tires a Costco for a good price but it's too far for me - Bj's is close but I wouldn't trust them - I maybe wrong but looks like a few kids working for min wage - again I could be wrong.

Michelin Defenders replaced the original Dunlop Grand Trek AT tires in 2021, when I obtained the SR5 DLT (Dad's Last Truck). Our Costco Tire is the busiest in the Inland NW region, and you can look on the employees' name tags to know how long they've been working there. My lo-cal Toyota dealer also offers a buy three, get the fourth tire free on the Michelins. It seems like a toss-up between my great Costco Tire guys and Parker Toyota. We're all locals. I replace tires according to the date codes more than mileage, after living in small Alaska coastal towns, and driving through Canada, where gas was even more expensive (figure $5 a gallon, when our town was $2 or better). Jay Leno and the Chevrolet engineer that provided him with his YouTube test drive, noted that Michelin tires were chosen for the new Corvette because they are manufactured to provide uniformly round weighting, no balancing required for the tires, only for the rims and other components.
I'd been running X-Radials for years before retiring to Idaho, where Mike walked out of the Costco Tire bay as I walked to the store. "They don't make your tire any more." What! Michelin basically changed the name to Defender with the same tread pattern that served me well through rain, snow, and ice, "All-Season" tires meant for northern seasons. "There's a lot riding on your tires."
