I'm FINALLY taking delivery of my new SR5 in Celestial Silver next week.

It seems that all complaints about paint peeling are on white Tacomas.

Is silver a safe color from having issues?

White is the only peeling color I've read about.

Every clearcoated vehicle is at risk of clearcoat blush or failure if not properly cared for.

Blazing Blue Pearl also had some clear coat issues.

But I've yet to see any trend of Celestial Silver issues...

    2018 cement (paint sucked)
2019 and 2020 4Runner in super white paint sucked
2022 army green 4Runner paint sucked was my dream rig so I was going to keep it anyway and repaint years down the road if it got that bad but a teenage girl texting took it out way too young
We currently have a lunar rock 4Runner and cavalry blue tundra paint sucks along with my mgm Tacoma paint sucked so bad I got it completely repainted

Owned a few first gen tacos and 3rd gen 4Runners and 1st gen tundra paint were decent on every single one of those

Thanks for all the input. "Caring for" the paint won't be an issue as I'm very anal about things and retired. The
I'd bet ALL paint on new vehicles is water based. Does Toyota have a hidden paint delete option??? :crapstorm:

White has always been a garbage color to own in these trucks. The paint starts failing on them QUICK. They usually turn yellow first and then the paint starts peeling. All of the colors are trash though. Typical Toyota crap.

There are paint issues with several Tacoma's and other models .The protective plastic wrap was left on way too long while waiting to be sold. There is a TSB for this.Inspect the truck BEFORE leaving the dealer.Look for stains and scratches primarily on the hood and roof.

I have had silver and now black. Both are good, we also have had Toyota models red, grey. Those are fine, I hand wash regularly (every week or two) wax 3 times a year and paint correction yearly. This year putting a coating on,
    Good luck

They changed the color code for the white trucks this year. Maybe they are finally trying to fix it.

Ice Cap is 0040 and is clear coated vs single stage. It may still suck but it’s not the same as Super White.

Can you elaborate what exactly sucked? I'm on 6th year of owning the white and don't have any issues with it.

It’s super soft I’m sure if you look close hard enough you’ll find tons of pitting from rocks etc

Opposite. I dont see alot of rock chips. My windshield is far worst than the paint on the front.
Also, I dragged my front bumper against the poll in my garage 2x. The paint was not damaged and scratches got buffed out.

Toyota must not use ostrich feather prep like GM does.
