Im looking for a gear case that could be put on the prinsu rack on my roof.

I bought a pelican case as a gift for someone and really liked it, but found it on the more expensive side, do y'all have any other brands to recommend?

Heard good things about roam adventure, but lets hear of others if you know any.

    Cheers!

I’m looking for the same thing. Harbor Freight had their Apache 9800 case on sale recently for $99. Has anyone tried that one?

I used the roam 95L on the roof all summer and it did great.

1” cam straps to the roof rack, there are many, many strapping options.

Unchanged from initial review, still working well.

Harbor Freight Apache cases here for the win. Never had any leaks, super tough, and priced right. And I'm a guy that hates all things HF but these cannot be beat.

Anyone know how to mount Apache 9800’s to a Sherpa?
They seem like the best case

no internal system for brackets like Roam I believe
The Sherpa rack uses dual extruded aluminum slot bars that they sell rounded insert nuts for

I’ve seen people use u bolts and holes drilled into the case.
So far it’s sounding like that or use their nurserts and some bolts.

would be cool if there’s a way to organize and label keys for everything locked up

4 nutserts/bolts/washers per case is probably gonna look better and hold fine
With more room to adjust position first before deciding where to drill the holes

if only there were deals on the 9800’s right now…

I just drilled holes in the bottom to mount it to my Prinsu. Sealed with some silicon never had an issue.

So I do plan to do that.
    Drill 4 holes per box.
    Bolts, using rubber-lined metal washers
so that it is sealed against water, but removable and moveable
without silicone that can vibrate, heat, expand, contract, crack, and leak

    Sherpa bolts
    Sherpa t-slot rails and nuts

the one thing I am unsure of is what length bolts.
How do y'all figure this out?

    I'm thinking:
    -put box on roof
    -measure, drill holes
-stick a long rod through the hole, going into the t-slot rail part
    mark it with sharpie
then see how long that rod is to the sharpie mark, measure, and order a bolt close to that
which sucks a little bit because that means downtime and waiting

as opposed to magically knowing beforehand what parts to already have, x length bolts

I guess Roam cases would solve that, as Sherpa has roam brackets. Roam cases designed to use them, bolts right up.
Roam case, and brackets, probably $400-700
    An Apache case, $170/ea
    big difference

You don’t need them to be very long. Less than an inch, maybe 3/4” or even 1/2”. If you wanted to get fancy you could put an acorn nut on it.
