What are my options for replacing my rusty gas tank skid plate on my '03 4 X 4? I do not off do any road escapades just around town driving.

It is off right now while I am working on cleaning up the frame and the thought of bolting that rusty piece back on does not make sense to me.

Anybody in a dry western state replace theirs with a fancy one that wants to sell theirs?

    Thoughts?

Low Range Offroad makes a dandy replacement. It's very heavy duty, and a direct bolt on. Mine rotted so bad that the only thing left was about 6 inches on each end. Set me back about 250.

I have low range plate. Great piece for $250.

I considered welding a piece to the old skid plate for a cheap quick repair but stock are junk and likely beyond a fix.

I assume you mean your stock one rusted out, and replaced it with the LR one for $250.

On the 2003, how is the guard bolted on? Is it self tap type bolts, or bolts with nuts on the top side? I'm asking cuz mine is rusted out and now hanging down front and back. Center is rusted gone, leaving only the front and back. So I just want to remove now both pieces and just leave it off. I don't off road at all. Tank looks new, no rust and clean. I need to be prepared to remove this real quick while my truck is on the lift having my cat replaced. If I can do this quick while my mechanic is working up front, then I want to do it then without pissing him off or charging me extra time. He's ok with me doing this "IF" I don't hold him up. And, the guard bolts aren't also the tank mount bolts, correct?

    Thanks

They are self tapping, no loose nuts. The guard bolts do not have anything to do with the support of the tank.

Too bad you guys weren't making the frames for these trucks!!! That skid plate will likely last longer than anything else on the truck.
