I can’t fill my gas tank. I’ve tried many different gas stations and pumps but can only trickle in a little bit of gas at a time. Could the rollover valve be causing this?

You been topping off or adding fuel after fill nozzle clicks off before this started happening???

Negative. Soon as it clicks, I put the pump away. Mainly because I track my gas mileage... OCD. So every time I fill up, it’s to the first click and that’s it.

You haven't mentioned CEL or codes so assuming you have neither. You may want to use the search bar at top right to see what other members have posted on TW over the years.

You either have an issue at the vent valve or the canister is bad, or both.

I had an issue a while back where my purge valve would just stick wide open after fill ups. It got progressively worst also. It winds up being that I had junk stuck somewhere in the lines because after smoke testing the system which involved pressurizing the entire EVAP system the problem went away and never returned. The issue is obviously not similar to yours, but my point is EVAP systems are finnicky and not to mention they suck horribly.

I’ve tested the purge and vent valve and they are operating fine. I have also smoke tested and didn’t find any leaks. I have two CEL codes, P0440 and P0446.

Where is the rubber fill tube? Are you talking about the filler neck?

solenoid is acting as it should and the carbon canister is less than two years old, but I won’t rule it out.

Is there any way to test the canister itself?

Yes but lift is needed or drop spare and rear on ramps for access. Remove 2 hoses from cannister and blow through top hose using a clean piece of hose. If dark fluid flows out bottom pipe or no flow/clogged. Cannister is shot. Check the tank vent hose that runs beside filler neck for collapse/obstruction first

Interesting, in all my years wrenching, I've never come across a bad charcoal cannister. (I've also only worked on vehicles that have the cannister under the hood I think, so people overfilling prolly wasn't as hard on it). So I've never had to see the FSM or old tricks for testing it either. I'm gonna look up a video showing what you say. Makes sense. Gonna learn something new real quick this morning :Dvery cool

Mind you I was attempting to answer OPs question, not suggest this as a fix for his issue.:D

I had this plastic type film that coats the inside of the filler neck come apart and prevent me from filling my tank. Same symptoms you have.

That's what I was thinking of too. Where the pressure couldn't escape while he fills and so it shuts off the pump. That valve has to be able to vent openly to the cannister while the tank fills right?

Im thinking 02 TRD V6 cannister is under hood?Tank vent to filler neck bypasses cannister and vents into filler neck otherwise causing pump shutoff.
